The early morning dawns, and while most people would just be getting out of bed, it seems like some didn't want to leave it, even in other worlds. Still, the Core had other ideas, as there suddenly appears a small, green haired boy, laying on the ground. He was dressed in a simple light green dressing gown, and looked like he had been in the middle of a dream he didn't want to stir from.

Unfortunately, closer inspection paints a very different tale. The young boy is very pale and thin, like he's obviously been suffering from something for quite some time. His breathing is also very labored, and it almost seems like his body is going to give up any minute.

Duo made his way past the diamond on his way to work often. Though it wasn't on the more direct route, when the Core was dropping new people in as it was wont to do every few months, he made a point to check it out just in case some one he knew finally decided to drop it ( ... )

The touch made the boy stir, whatever consciousness was left to him seemingly a bit alarmed at having someone so near. He inhaled, but it sounding more like he was breathing through a filter, and he started coughing instantly, flecks of blood flying from his mouth.

"Shit..." Duo swore under his breath, pulling the boy in to a sitting position to keep him from choking on his own blood. He thought to call one of the greeters over for help right then, but he wasn't sure if that was an over reaction yet.

"Come on, try and stay awake, okay? I'm gonna help you as much as I can, kid..."

(ooc: Sorry for the delay. My internet cut out last night. Dx )

The boy felt like nothing in Duo's arms, he was so tiny and frail. He stirred slightly at his voice, opening his eyes a fraction, and staring at Duo in bewilderment. Obviously; it wasn't like he was expecting to suddenly appear on a baseball field when he laid down to die.

Well, there was a response, and it would have been a relief if the fact that he practically weighed nothing wasn't such a concern. What the hell was the Core doing, bringing in some one on the brink of death like that? What if he had never come by, and the greeters had failed to notice? He knew they weren't all unobservant like that, but the ones today seemed particularly incapable of realizing when something was wrong.

Scowling in worry, he shifted his arms, trying to put one under the boy's legs and lift him up, all the while hoping it didn't just cause him more pain. He needed a hospital, fast.

The boy let out a sound of protest at the movement, trying to speak, but only an ugly rasp came out. A ragged breath escaped from him instead, and he rested his head heavily on Duo's shoulder.

He wasn't sure what was going on or why, but if this fool wanted to drag him around, then so be it. It wasn't like he had the strength to stop him.

If Duo knew what the kid was thinking about him right then, he would have agreed about the 'fool' part. But that fool was determined to get him to the hospital come hell or high water. He wouldn't start something like that then not see it through.

"Sorry..." was all he said to the sounds of discomfort and protest, but he didn't stop, picking him up and heading towards the exit.

Sorry? He was sorry? The boy couldn't really understand why he would be sorry. Didn't he know who he was? Didn't he realize he was suppose to die?

Still, it wasn't like he could say anything in protest. All he could do was hang on weakly as he was dragged to the hospital.

Well it wasn't like he made a habit of hurting people these days, even accidentally.

It was not a short walk, nor easy when carrying some one even as light as this kid. But determination went a long way, and he kept walking even when his arms started hurting from toting an entire person all the way to the hospital.

"I really hope you don't kick the bucket, kid..." he muttered at one point, a few blocks away from the hospital.

The boy didn't comment, though he did manage a weak squeeze of his shoulder.

The hospital eventually came in sight, people milling about near the emergency ward. It was a moment before an ambulance driver saw them, calling over some of his coworkers. They met Duo half way, taking the boy off his hands and asking a flurry of questions: What happened? How long had he been like this?

Duo wished he could give more answers than 'I don't know', but that was all he had. At least he was in better hands now.

It felt weird to just drop and run, though, so he asked if he could stay, figuring some one would need to fill the kid in whenever he was awake.

Considering they had no answers, they weren't about to tell Duo no. Still, it was going to be a hell of a wait, and the hours ticked by slowly. It was dark outside before a nurse finally came to him.

The boy was fine, for the most part, though he was hooked up to a machine that was breathing for him. He was stable and conscious at the moment, though; would he like to see him?

Duo figured, why the hell not, he'd stuck around that long (re-reading the same three boring magazines, half paying attention to whatever drivel was on the lobby TV and dozing off more than once) and it would have been pointless to do that just to say 'no thanks, I'm gone'.

He agreed to it and followed the nurse back to the room, giving a knock on the door frame once he arrived.

"Hey."

There was a machine standing right next to the boy's bed, obviously the thing that was helping him breathe, judging from the numerous pipes and wires disappearing under the blankets that covered him. A breath mask was over his face, keeping him from speaking. A bit of the boy's color had returned, but he still looked especially frail, though that did not keep him from turning his head and giving a faint wave of acknowledgement.

A pen and paper had been left on the stand beside him, though he didn't have the strength to reach for it. At least communication would not be impossible.

He looked better than he did when Duo brought him in, but the tubes and wires were unnerving none the less. Duo never much liked hospitals, but when most of his experiences in them had to do with breaking a person out or dealing with torture, there was a valid reason behind that.

He pulled up one of the nearby chairs next to the bed and flopped in to it, noticing the paper and pen before speaking again.

"So, kid, you got a name?"
