[Roxas and Sora, evening] pullsheavendown August 7 2011, 23:50:37 UTC
[It's twilight when Roxas gets the urge to go off by himself for a little bit. Not too far-he doesn't want to leave or anything. Despite being an unexpected vacation that he didn't plan for at all, it's been really nice. But there's something a little restless in him tonight, so after finishing a sandwich, he tucks his hands in his back pockets and walks down the beach, toes squishing into the sand ( ... )

[When Sora steps out from the cabin and closes the door behind him, the sun's already starting to sink past the horizon. There are more shadows, stretching across the ground than light, but he's not worried about the oncoming darkness, not when Aslan's around. Anything he hears moving about in the black is likely to be a friend or at worst, some wandering critter from the nearby woods. He can hear the crackle of a fire nearby, the soft murmur of voices in another direction.]

[It's really chance that Sora manages to spot Roxas just before he disappears around the corner, headed towards the water's edge. He only thinks about it for a moment before he's moving down the stairs and making his way there too.]

[He steps out onto the sand just in time to see Roxas' shoes come off so he can wiggle his toes . And when Roxas sits, Sora finally comes up behind him, hands shoved in his pockets.]

[It's only because everything's so quiet that he hears someone approaching-sand's good for muffling sound that way. Even the inside of his head feels quiet.

He glances back and isn't really bothered to see that it's Sora. Maybe he's not surprised, either. In one way or another, Sora's always there.]

Hey.

[He nods at him before turning back to face the water. It's not that he's ignoring him; it's just that he can see the sunset better this way.]

It's nice out here, huh?

[It's not Destiny Islands, or Twilight Town. But it's still something. And so quiet. Compared to the city, anyway.]

Actually, we almost had the camp-out by the ocean. And then Goofy figured out it was a bad idea. We found this place instead.

Yeah, it is.

[It's beautiful. Peaceful. Something just for them, even if they don't own this land.]

The ocean would have been nice. [He smiles a tiny smile.] But we still got a beach.

Makes me think of home. Only not as warm. [He catches sight of something out the corner of his eye. It has him crouching to pick it up. A stone, smooth and round. Fits easily in his palm.]

Me and Riku used to try and see who could catch more fish bare handed.

[He tosses it into the air. Then catches it.]

I can see why. [From what he remembers of the Destiny Islands, this place isn't nearly as pretty. But it's not completely different, either.]

Who won?

Let's just say Riku's score was higher than mine.

[A LOT higher.]

[One fling of his arm and the stone goes skipping across the water before one small plunk that has it sinking beneath the surface. Three skips.]

Heh. Well, you'd both be higher than mine. I never tried anything with fish before today.

[He watches the stone skip with interest. That's new to him. Idly, without really thinking about it, he feels at the sand with one hand, looking for a stone.]

It was...good? Growing up there?

It'd be a whole lot easier to see in the day. [A chuckle.] But if you tried hard and really put your mind to it, you could.

[It was the best. He gives Roxas a nod.]

Our favorite place to go was this one island off shore. There was this obstacle course, me and Riku used to race on all the time. Then there the treehouse and the seaside shack. The pier too. We used it to get to the Paopu tree to watch the sunset at the end of the day.

Maybe tomorrow. [Practice makes less-lousy.]

The paopu tree... [With a start, he realizes that he knows exactly what Sora is talking about it. He's been there, but that day is hazy; he can see it clearer in his memories, when he, Riku and Kairi would gather there and play and sit and talk.

Except it wasn't him, and those aren't his memories. He's quiet for a few moments before throwing a stone into the water. It sinks immediately.]

Riku talked about it a little.

You gotta see it one day. No sunset like Destiny Islands.

Only one even close to it is Twilight Town.

[Though it's hard to compare. Both are breathtaking in their own right, things Sora loves to come back to see time and time again. But they're two very different sunsets.]

[Well. No way out of this without lying...at least by omission.]

I've seen it.

[He speaks very quietly, but it's understandable.]

Once. On the beach, near the paopu tree. Like you said.
