Got this lovely email just now:
Netscape, Firefox, and Opera to be blocked!
Hello --
Please read the following regarding usage of Netscape, Firefox, and Opera:
What: Access and usage of all versions of Netscape and Opera as well as versions of Firefox other than the Community Edition will be blocked.
When: October 1, 2007
What Should I do: Please respond to this email using the Reply button if you have a business application that will not work with one of these supported browsers, or if you have any questions. If you exclusively use Internet Explorer 6.x or Firefox Community Edition, then you don't need to do anything. Internet Explorer 6.x should be available on your computer. Please contact the help desk at 684-1875 if you need any assistance installing or using any of our supported browsers.
Why: The browsers listed above present a serious problem for providing IT support. We are unable to manage version upgrades, security patches, or inappropriate sites that Transit has requested we block. Transit IT only supports Internet Explorer 6.x and Firefox Community Edition. Other browsers increase our support costs, and limit our ability to provide your system with appropriate support.
As such, we are requesting that all Transit users move to supported browsers: Internet Explorer 6.x or Firefox Community Edition. Please note that Internet Explorer 7 is not yet supported internally except for WCMS users.
We appreciate your help in helping us to standardize supported browsers for all of our users. Thank you for your understanding.
(Note you may be receiving this email because you have been identified as the contact for a laptop or shared computer that has one of these browsers installed.)
