Book Discussions

May 19, 2010 08:28

Happy spring, everyone! Vail had spring snow squalls last week, so we hope it’s sunnier and warmer wherever you are!

We wanted to acquaint everyone with a couple of our book discussion programs, one that we’ll be running this summer, and one that we’ll run during Sirens. We hope you’ll participate early and often, and that maybe you might try a new faery book or two!

Guest of Honor Online Book Discussions
Over the next few months, we’ll be discussing works by our 2010 Guests of Honor in preparation for our conference this fall. We’ll be posting weekly discussion topics on our LiveJournal according to the schedule below, and everyone is welcome to stop by and offer thoughts, whether you plan to attend Sirens this fall or not.

June: Holly Black’s Tithe (first three weeks), and Kin and Kith (last two weeks)
July: Terri Windling’s The Changeling and A Midsummer Night’s Faery Tale (first two weeks), and some of the works that she has edited (last two weeks)
August: Marie Brennan’s Midnight Never Come (all four weeks)

We hope to see you this summer!

Books and Breakfast
Our Books and Breakfast program is back! On Friday and Saturday of Sirens, before programming starts for the day, you can bring your own breakfast and join us to discuss some influential, controversial and fun works of faery literature by women authors. We wanted to release the list of books we’ll be discussing earlier this year, so you’ll have time to pick up those that interest you! Here is the book list:

Friday:
Bones of Faerie by Janni Lee Simner
The Perilous Gard by Elizabeth Marie Pope
Thomas the Rhymer by Ellen Kushner
War for the Oaks by Emma Bull
Wildwood Dancing by Juliet Marillier

Saturday:
Ash by Malinda Lo
How to Ditch Your Fairy by Justine Larbalestier
Rosemary and Rue by Seanan McGuire
Tam Lin by Pamela Dean
Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr

Also, yes, we have already read these books! If you’re trying to choose and you’d like recommendations or plot summaries, just say the word!
