I'd like to tell my children that I once saved a entire flight of passengers over the Pacific, but that doesn't mean I go into every plane ride hoping we have engine failure
Who says that the storm poets are going to be worse? I know of at least four people with multiple finals stages who are going to greatly benefit from this.
I never said that explicitly. You're talking specifics, I'm talking about from the idea of a generalizable national tournament. In theory, this is supposed to be individual nationals? What if the olympics let in anyone who could afford it? Don't you think there should be some sort of weeding out process? I'm not saying do aways with storm poets (I've never said that), but having a system in place above, "can you pay?" is needed to add credibility to a national competition.
sure, i'm all about having the toughest, elitest competition possible. it makes it way more exciting for everyone. sadly, that role is relegated to the handful of big money invitationals held around the country, something PSI clearly is not interested in duplicating.
newsflash: PSI just isn't going to run an all-around, legit competition. it's quaintly egalitarian stance will never let the competition rise to great levels. if i had my way, we'd seed prelims, have the finals order determined by rank, and make it harder to get in as a storm poet than it would be to just qualify through a venue. there are just so many things PSI could do if they really cared about their competitors or about their audience.
