Man, I love new TV seasons!
I tried Invasion tonight, but just couldn't get into it. Kind of depressing, since the reviews were great, but kind of great, because I really do watch too much as it is. It turns out Lost is enough for me on Wednesdays ... so Invasion gets added to the pile of new-show rejects (I usually go with a three-episode rule, but I'm on a short leash this year) with Bones...
New Shows Tried Out and Tossed:
Bones (great premise, horrible/stiff acting)
Invasion (just couldn't get into it)
New Shows Tried Out and Kept:
Reunion (love the cast, and the pilot wasn't amazing but I'm giving it a chance)
My Name is Earl (lived up to all the reviews; just fantastic)
Kitchen Confidential (more people need to watch this show, and its lead-in Arrested Development)
New Shows Tried Out, Seem Good, but Can't Commit:
Threshold (I've simply hit my, uh, "threshold" with shows that you MUST see week in and week out, and this one being on Fridays at 9 doesn't help much, although it looked awesome AND has a midget)
New Shows TO Try Out:
Freddie (for a guilty pleasure)
Extras (Ricky Gervais on HBO? Must-see!)
What About Brian? (mid-season replacement; another JJ Abrams show)
Emily's Reasons Why Not (mid-season replacement; looks cute and coupled with Jake In Progress may be a solid hour)
New Shows I'd Like to Try Out but Likely Won't:
Everybody Hates Chris (the sit-com may be back, but too much competition on Thursdays at 8)
How I Met Your Mother (I choose Kitchen Confidential over this, but I hear Doogie's awesome)
Not bad at all, considering I'll most likely just be adding around less than three hours of new shows this year when all is said and done, and I'm sure I'm subtracting just around the same amount due to cancellations or jumping of the shark. There are quite a few great serial dramas on these days, and it looks like there may even be a resurgence in the comedy, so huzzah to that! So far, Arrested Development, Kitchen Confidential, My Name Is Earl and even The Office (no joke) have lived up to expectations ... no, they've exceeded expectations. (It's about time there are some quality half-hour comedies on TV; I tried Nip/Tuck this week at the behest of all the Nip/Tuck fans out there, and yes, it's a solid show, but no, I can't do it ... I'm reaching capacity and 24 and The Sopranos supposedly start up again next year some time, so I have to save up some drama energy!)
Since I'm listening to less and less new music and going to less and less movies, I'm not about to feel bad about this. It's a habit, I admit it. And I love every minute of it.
