I have to go on the record and state that humanity is NOT on a steady decline. That would suggest there is somehow a way for us to lower ourselves even further.
Clearly, it takes working a Boxing Day sale in retail to fully grasp this concept.
Remember the scene in Mean Girls where everyone is jumping around the cafeteria like wild animals, ripping each other's hair out, etc? This morning was something akin to that.
It all started as I was walking to work at 4:45 in the morning. The LAST thing I wanted to see was the poor, miserable, sick people who waited overnight to be first in line. I say poor, miserable and sick, and I mean it in the least pitying way possible. I say... poor, miserable and sick in disgust. There was a line up basically around to the back of the building. In the front, there is a tent, several reclining lawn chairs and the biggest idiots I have ever seen wrapped up in blankets on said chairs. As I got closer, there was the smell of beer in what I estimate to be a 20 foot radius around the crowd. Wonderful. Nothing like alcohol to NUMB THE FREEZING COLD.
Now, apparently, before we even opened the door, someone had pulled a KNIFE on someone. I think the reasoning was something like the other person butted in line. I don't give a shit HOW good the deals are in the store, you need to be severely sick in the head to pull a knife on someone over MATERIAL GOODS.
And as the doors open, the wild animals break loose and run throughout the store, swarming every department, basically terrifying me in their frenzy. People tripping and shoving and grabbing over the HD-DVD players that were on for a hundred bucks. Crowding for x-boxes that we didn't have. STILL ASKING FOR WIIS AND GUITAR HERO III.
And I stood there, appalled. Not surprised, mind you. I expected as much, and I have heard stories and I know people act like that. But appalled nonetheless because here I am, actually WITNESSING it with my own eyes, and it is a terrifying sight to behold.
And then the next 11 and a half hours dragged on to a point where time didn't move for a while and omg how is it only noon will this day ever end can I get a razor blade now kplzthx.
And that was my day. :D
