I am SO thrilled.
I've already read a 300+ page book in two days WHILE working (not during work,) but it was an easy read for the most part for research for my novel. I can't reveal the topic of that book, however.
I've done countless hours of research online about Chopin and Grieg, talked at length with mi hermana Mexicana about Quinceañeras (the Mexican-American version of the Mexican celebration of a girl's turning fifteen; the Quiñceanos.
I have done countless hours of research online and the old fashioned way (remember non-fiction print materials?) on Cameroon and the Peace Corps (the best and only book I found on Cameroon itself was in the children's section and has been incredibly valuable. It reminds me of the books I used to always be mesmerized by when I was little, and still am. Destined to be a traveler, I guess.) I read So You Think You Want to Join the Peace Corps in what amounted to about two hours, if that. Of course, the whole thing reminded me of the Simpson's episode in which Homer is handed the pamphlet, "So, You're Going to Die" (Classic.)
Also have in my possession and will have my very own copy in a few days Lonely Planet's The Travel Book: A Journey Through Every Country in the World. Most nights Aisy just begs me to sit with her and look at it with her, just paging through until we come upon a country she thinks looks interesting and then we read about it together. She JUST like I was then: So interested in different countries and cultures. I'm so excited to see her excited by the social sciences. It's really neat.
I have the read, in the most ancient Lonely Planet book out there the section on Cameroon, which was sparse when this thing was written, but had some good info nonetheless. Seriously though, the book itself looks like an artifact that would be kept in a museum under special lighting to keep it from disintegrating further that a Lonely Planet book would be telling you you simply couldn't miss out on seeing.
I have done countless, relatively fruitless hours of researching the Nyong river region of Cameroon.
But tonight was the crowning touch: I found a book called Peace Corps in Cameroon, which was more than I EVER expected to find as a resource! I am SO excited. I cannot WAIT to have it in my hot little hands. :-) YAY!
