The longer I play Skyrim, the more I realize I can't do everything in it alone. This is troubling, mainly because I am terrible at not hitting my buddy in close quarters combat. Also, as a quiet, sneaky type my most logical choice in pals would be a big, crunchy type. But many of the big, crunchy types make so much noise that I get spotted too, since I'm right in front. Because I'm the leader.
I chose my long-term buddy, Farkas, because he's a decent sort as far as people go. According to his old leader, he's kind hearted, and some of the stuff he says makes him seem a bit young. He's also not the brightest bulb in the box, but there's a certain simple charm; he declares that some people say he isn't smart, and he punches them, but he likes me. Intrigueing. So I brought him along on a mission or two. While I could have gotten through the objective without him, I couldn't have gotten there alone. It also feels odd having to tell him to wait, because I know he does badly around traps. On the upside, despite seeming heavily armored, and swinging a greatsword, he is surprisingly silent- quieter than his more clever brother Vilkas, as the very least. And he uses a bow for ranged!
So now I have chosen my pal, my shield brother, to bring with me. Now I just need to get better at not accidentally hitting him.
