recap

Apr 13, 2007 03:30

this is gonna be another one of those posts with bullet points, because none of them will really go together to form a cohesive entry that has...i dunno....flow, cadence, shit that ties together to form something that will make some semblance of sense.
here we go:
  • waking up at 5am to catch a train at 6:30 or 6:45am BLOWS. there's no other way to say it. it blows. and then i spend roughly an hour and a half commuting to work. yes, i can nap on the train, but it doesn't make getting up at 5 suck any less.
  • when i catch the bus to go BACK to the train station after work, i pick it up on lower michigan ave. the stop smells like fried chicken. every day. without fail. HOW IN THE HELL DOES AN UNDERGROUND INTERSECTION SMELL LIKE FRIED CHICKEN???
  • my office has a chunk of space set aside as a lounge-type area. there's a kitchen and tables and chairs and a big leather couch and a TV, where a crowd of ladies older than myself gather every day to watch the almighty general hospital. the other day, i was eating lunch in that lounge, and my favorite VP came in to eat lunch as well. this woman (the VP) is just the cutest, sweetest woman alive and i like her a ton, and she's just kind of observing the ladies as they watch general hospital and get engrossed in lulu's 3 boyfriends or someone's evil twin or alien abduction or whatever else happens on soap operas, and she's making little aside comments to me about how "motherfucking ridiculous this show is" (her words, not mine) and i am just DYING.
  • jesus H, that last bullet point contained the longest run-on sentence ever.
  • my mom's doing alright. she's not supposed to use her right arm a whole lot, so she has trouble with lifting things and moving things and so on. but she's recovered really nicely from the surgery. when chemo starts, i expect it will be a different story.
  • my dad wound up in the hospital yesterday. originally, he was going in for some kind of scan, but the doctors told him to stay and have his appendix taken out, as it was more or less about to explode. so he stayed in the hospital overnight, and i guess my mom is supposed to bring him home today. somehow. with her bad arm and no strength. i've got some rather rickety parents and it honestly scares the shit out of me to think of how they'll be in a few years when i have to take care of them and their estate and all that standard "old people crap."
  • on a lighter note, my boss has nicknamed me "olive" (see: "Little Miss Sunshine") because apparently i am entirely too cheerful in the morning. oh well?
  • i ordered a little ficus plant (like this!) for my desk and it has a weirdly shaped trunk/root system that kind of resembles a man. a man with a really freakishly huge left arm. so it's going to need some kind of awesome masculine name, as all my plants tend to do better if i name them.
was that not THE most awesome entry i've ever written? i feel like i've been neglecting this damn site while i acclimate to this job and its commute. once things begin to move a little more smoothly, i imagine i'll have more to say about things.

work, chicago, amusing, daily, family
