Thoughts:
Oh Chris, I wanted to love this movie because I do like you, but alas it made no sense.
I know next to nothing about this movie except what the description said and that it had a rating of 4 stars. 4! People online were raving about it so I looked it up on our free Netflix and sure enough there it was. I read that above description and thought... why not?
It wasn't worth the free watch! I don't understand the movie at all and there was this back story of a horror that took place which made me want to be sick that I never needed to know nor did they have to go there. They were trying to make the plight of the last car on the train more horrific when it was horrible enough. The story started out with potential and then veered wildly into "let's do whatever the help we want."
I believe this movie was about a class system and the rich or powerful keeping down the little guy which I don't agree with (I'm a little guy). I don't buy into the one-per-centers are evil mentality. But this movie comes from a point of post-apocalyptic events and how society became about the more elite keeping the "common" on the end of the train in squalor. So the story has a point but I don't think it really applies to our world and more the this fantasy world. The abuse the Hats (front of the train society) perpetrate on the Shoes (last few cars of the train) is reprehensible enough. It is the same old story of people wanting to ensure their comfort and existence at the expense of others.
For me the problem with this story was its over the top story, it's unbelievable and sometimes ridiculous characters and the horrors we had to bring into the story to make it more shocking.
I never tell and ending so I'll just say, not only did the ending make little to no sense but it was stupid.
Don't bother.
Disclaimer: This is just my opinion and you may very well love/hate the movie. To each their own.
