Some of these ice bucket challenges are really fun, though I think a lot of people are really missing the point. I haven't been challenged myself but I've seen the actual wording and basically what it means is "do something really stupid to embarrass yourself and you don't have to give money to charity to help sick people". I appreciate those who DO give in spite of doing the challenge, celebrities in particular who can more than afford to donate some of their excess earnings.
Oh I'm sure there are those who don't donate but I find it fun and extremely creative because it has helped ALS raise 4 times as much money this summer than last which is impressive and I think there are quite a few people out there who do the challenge and donate because it actually makes them think.
People are also talking about what it is for which is something spectacular.
That is true and it has been good for that. But I still find it extremely sad that as human beings we only really care about the plight of others when thinking of ourselves and the stupid things we can do to ourselves. I despair of humanity sometimes. It seems like we're doomed to just get dumber and dumber until we kill ourselves for fun.
Very true. For some I think the challenge really was more about getting attention for themselves, but if you can ignore them at least many doing it brought attention to it and by bring attention to it have raised money for ALS.
The struggle I've had is that to get a cure for ALS they experiment on animals. It makes it a difficult one for me. I understand wanting to save human lives I just find it difficult that they think experimenting on animals is the way to go when the actual success rate is negligable.
