I have to say one of the things I truly love about Ward's writing now (as opposed to the beginning of the series which I still love) is the telling of multiple stories. Not only did we learn more about Qhuinn and Blay, but we also got to know more about Layla, Xcor, Trez, a new Chosen, iAm, Assail and a new character named Sola.
Now while Qhuinn and Blay's story is not my favorite at all, I'm so glad I got to read more about Qhuinn. Qhuinn is a character I've liked since his beginning in this world. It is probably because he's the underdog, the outcast. His family disliked him because he wasn't perfect with his mismatched eyes. This made me empathize with him.
Blaylock on the other hand never really appealed to me.
What I did love in this book most of all was the resolution Qhuinn got with so much of his life.
And then there were more characters. Trez's life and betrothal have really interested me especially with the development of the Chosen he meet at Rhev's place. Then there is Layla and her sad/happy story which I can't wait to read more about. I'm hoping the issues with the BoB can be resolved. And then there is Assail and Sola. Honestly, I think their parts were my favorite of the entire book.
And when Sola noticed Assail purring. Dang. I need to read more about those two.
I would say I was into about half of this book. The rest I could have taken or left. Can't wait for more though as I'm curious to what happens to the rest of our characters.
