Once Bitten by Heather Guerre
Series: Tooth & Claw
Rating:

Description:
Finally free from an abusive marriage, Jules has lost her faith in love. She’s moved back to her tiny, rural hometown, where she expects to spend the rest of her life fading into the background of other people’s lives, alone. That is, until she meets Max.

Max knew he’d have to journey beyond his pack’s borders to find his mate. He hadn’t expected her to be a quiet, skinlocked woman with shadows in her eyes and a wall around her heart. If he wants to claim her, he’ll need to convince her that he’s worth risking her heart again.

But courtship is neither simple nor straightforward between ordinary humans and wolf-kin. Bound by Silence and threatened by ancient enemies, only a love that defies all odds will be strong enough to keep them together.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Back to the Wolf kin which are my favorite part of this series.

Enter Jules who is just getting out of what seems to be a verbally and emotionally abusive relationship. She has no confidence left and just wants to go through each day with her head down.

Enter Max who is visiting the area; see's Jules, and is completely smitten. But he realizes she's been hurt and she's timid. Max's idea of courting is showing up everyday to see Jules at the store her grandmother owns in hopes Jules will get used to him??? I don't know but I love him for it.

My absolute favorite things about this book is the adorable banter between the characters.

"You're shivering," Max said suddenly, cutting himself off. "Jules, you should have told me to shut up and leave."

She smiled. "Shut up and leave."

"Wow. Rude."

On multiple occasions their banter made me laugh and love them as a couple.

And then the author blindsides you and the story goes careening down a cliff. There is blood and gore and you are sure no one will survive but she patches up most of them and kind of adds some duct tape here and there.

By the end I was freaking out that the book was going to end and I didn't know more. And then the book ended on a bit of a cliffhanger but more in an overall story way rather than a will they won't they way.

If you like paranormal romance, then this is a series worth the read.
