Hey ya'll!
Well, I'm updating (of all places) from my room in a region of Shanghai that literally translates into "West Lake" or phonetically "Sai Woo". Apparently the view is supposed to be "breathtaking" but we came in at night so I can't really see much. We did take a brief walk and there's a lot of bars around here so naturally there's lots of couples walking around and dudes trying to score. kekeke! We've been travelling in a group of 9 including myself and my parents and other relatives on our own little tour bus with our own guide. We go at our own pace and get to pick what we want to do which is pretty sweet, so I feel very lucky. :)
So far China has been pretty good. At first I was a little worried because of my relatives always saying shit about how people are getting robbed and stuff, but so far so good... *crosses fingers* The developed city areas are fine, and surprisingly clean. I was expecting a much larger version of the Chinatown on Spadina, but actually it's pretty spotless here.
The one thing that is way gross is the fact that grown men will spit (Tow Tam) all over the goddamned place. It's disgusting. Most of the time, they're the mainlanders who have money. You can tell because they smoke, have cell phones, and are all dressed the same way. Namely a fancy golf shirt, dress pants and shoes, and a cellphone on the hip. They're loud, obnoxious, have NO manners and have no concept of consideration for others or even rules. Things are pretty reckless in these parts...kinda like the wild west...except not so wild...? The funny thing is that so many of them are sugar daddies too. You can totally tell when you go into a restaurant and one of these older dudes is with two younger girls. Everytime I look at this old men I keep thinking of that line from the RIck James sketch: "They should've never gave you niggers money! You don't know how to appreciate shit!". I know that sounds way racist, but it is SO true. Oh yeah, and the recklessness? The pedestrians here are fearless and it's like the have the biggest balls ever..becuase they pretend cars aren't on the road and cross whenever and wherever they like. I saw 5 guys on the last few days on bikes that almost got smoked by huge city buses, but they don't even flinch. They're either incredibly brave or incredibly stupid.
The heat here is almost unbearable..it's been about 35 degrees everyday with humidity. I know this is gonna sound gross, but I've never sweat so much in my entire life. I sweat so much, that there's salt stains on my shirt. Fucking GROSS. Although it's a small price to pay to see all these unique places.
What I love about China is how ridiculously cheap everything is! For example, last night a bunch of us got full body massages (no happy endings your pervs!) for about $9.50 cdn for ONE HOUR! Awesome! and damn those masseuses are strong! I felt like someone kicked the crap outta me by the end, but yet oddly satisfying. The amazing thing is that she could maintain such pressure for a full hour. Crazy!Another example is that my "party" had this HUGE meal (we were all stuffed) and it only cost us $25 cdn including tip AND beer. Also, the beer here is quite enjoyable...the taste is mild and it goes down extra smooth.
Anyways, it's getting way late and I have to wake up velly ealry tomorrow, so I should be hittin' the ol' dusty trail...My apologies for the long post and I hope I'm not boring you guys to death.
