2005 - The Halftime Report

Jul 04, 2005 12:09

I admit to creating this sort-of-a-meme... :)

...basically, we're now roughly halfway through the year, and so here comes a list of the highlights and lowlights of the first half of 2005...

Best song of 2005 so far: Not easy at all. Most of the songs I've really enjoyed of late came out in the last three years, I think... I'll reluctantly lean towards Coldplay - Speed Of Sound. Reluctantly because of the rather ordinary lyrics - but THAT chorus...
Worst song of 2005 so far: Much easier. Charlotte Church destroyed any respectability she had left with her diabolical pop debut Crazy Chick. There's going to be a WHOLE ALBUM of this. No. No. NO.
Best sporting moment of 2005 so far: There could only be two contenders for this. And my memory of one of them - Bangladesh beating Australia at cricket - was sullied, as I couldn't see the end because my brother wanted to see The Simpsons instead. Therefore the only winner is Liverpool winning the Champions League final against AC Milan.
Best political news of 2005 so far: Now, there's something that's been pretty rare... good political news. Canada and Spain legalising homosexual marriage is about as good as I could think of.
Worst political news of 2005 so far: Take your pick. Mine's relatively personal though - Oliver Letwin holding off the Liberal Democrat challenge to hold his seat in the UK general election in May. His constituency covers my school, so I met both of them... Letwin's views contrast almost entirely with mine.
Single happiest moment of 2005 so far: Winning the mock election in my school, timed to coincide with said general election.
Single most depressing moment of 2005 so far: Too many to choose from. Far, far too many. It might just have been reading that the world's richest nations spend $1,000bn a year on arms, and less than $100bn on aid.
