Merry Christmas you old Building and Loan!

As you may or may not know watching "It's a Wonderful Life" on Christmas Eve is a tradition in the McGee house. Every year my mom makes dinner and we eat downstairs and watch the movie while eating. For those of you who haven't seen it, the basic idea that I want to discuss is that George Bailey has made such an impact on his town that if he was never born, the whole town would have become a seedy Vegas of the Northeast sort of thing. It made me think about making an impact on the world. I mean, by the time George Bailey was 19 years old, he had saved a kid from getting poisoned by a pharmacist and saved the life of his younger brother, who in turn saved the lives of every man on a military transport in World War II. I'm 19, and while I may have had a positive impact on people's lives, I haven't changed anything. I haven't saved a life and I haven't stopped the spread of Henry Potter-like figures. I understand that George Bailey is nothing more than a character in a movie, but I want to have an impact. I want to leave the world better than I found it. I want my kids to live in a country that is better and safer than the one I live in today. I really ought to get on the ball.
