I've noted that I hate trucks.
Now, I need to narrow it down more than that. I don't hate trucks. Trucks are actually okay with me. What I do hate though, is people who buy trucks for a primary vehicle without actually needing a truck for any reason other than the fact they like trucks.
Today was my first time being in a truck for a longgggggg time. My dad had borrowed his friend's truck + trailer for us to pick up a few cords of wood from this other guy I know through work.
This is the reason trucks exist: towing. Power.
People who do a lot of labour/construction/etc. need trucks. They need the sort of torque, horsepower, and four wheel drive that a regular car simply can't provide. I can appreciate that.
However, it bothers me when people buy a truck as a primary vehicle when there's absolutely no need of it. A much smaller car would suit their purposes perfectly.
Fuel consumption on almost all trucks is absolutely awful. When we stopped by work today, my dad stopped to have a conversation with another guy driving a truck. He asked him how he liked it, and all the various questions that go with that. Then he asked about fuel consumption. He told him that "It's awful. To go to Sackville takes about half a tank, and to fill it costs about $180."
Now, I'm sure he's exaggerating somewhat, but this is the reality of most trucks. It's not uncommon to see someone sink $100-120 worth of gas into their truck when filling it (and you know they'll be back in a day or two).
Of course, you CAN get diesel model trucks. They have around 40% better mileage than gasoline engines (
http://www.fusel.com/diesel_engines.html). Unfortunately, diesel trucks are significantly more expensive than regular trucks. It's not uncommon to find them running at ~$40,000, so no one really wants to buy one. I mean, if you're even considering buying a truck in the first place, you're definitely not that concerned about fuel economy.
What's worse, is the more I work at Hartlen's, the more I see this whole "truck = hick" stereotype coming through. Of course, an okay portion of these people use their trucks for their jobs, mostly wood-related. However, this doesn't encompass all of them.
In closing, if you're insecure about your penis size, get a Harley motorcycle. Get a sports car. Get anything but a truck.
