update
a lot going on, and a long time since i have posted anything for anyone.
biggest news i have, well, there are 2 things. thing 1, after a minor scare and a few tests i have once again a clean bill of health. i had been having some stomach problems, and the word cancer was used a couple of times by my doctor when looking for answers. after a bunch of tests and a minor surgery, they determined that i had a minor bacterial problem, gave me a pill, and all is better. thing 2, it looks like i am going to deploy to iraq.
more on thing 2. i have been a recruiter now for close to 3 years. nobody that i have put in has gone there yet. a unit that i am close with is going and has some of my recruits. my whole career, i have never asked someone to do something as a leader if i am not willing to or have not done it myself. i asked the recruiting command to release me to go on the deployment and they agreed. a few reasons. one reason, i want to continue to always do what i ask others to do in the military. 2, opportunities. there are a lot of career 'points' that i would get by doing an overseas tour. i am a good rank, age, and not getting any younger. this is my time. deployments are becoming so common that especially as a career soldier, i should really have one or i am going to start looking lazy 3, i know and trust this unit. i am going with people that i believe in and respect. 4, as a recruiter, when i walk into little billy's home and his mom says 'who are you to ask my son to serve in harm's way' i can say 'someone who has done just that and shares his level of commitment'.
good news is it looks like i will be home on vacation for queen of hearts.
on to other things for this journal entry...
ive learned a lot of things this week. driving a motorcycle in the snow sucks. i got caught in a snow squall last weekend. was really difficult reaching over the ferring on the goldwing to wipe the windshield. at least it wasnt sticking to the ground too bad. i didnt slide at all.
miata is fun to drive. i am not sorry i got that little toy. i get the truck out of the shop with new brakes tomorrow. need to register the new camper and the convertible this week. yay toys. omg, february is expensive... registering and inspecting all of those freaking toys.
pricing an add on to my house. wanting to add another 2 car garage and an open room above that with a bar and pool table. estimate came in the low 20's. i wonder if i can save up enough on my combat pay to put that up without using any of my home's equity to pay for it.
throwing my first events this weekend. hoping they go well.
in bad news, my horse is going to be retired from the mounted ceremonial team. he has been coming lame with back pain more and more frequently and has been improperly ridden by the people that share the stable with us. they do a lot of running on roads and hard tops. that really isnt good for a horse, and he si pretty old. i am pretty upset at the idea of losing him. very disappointing. will miss Ranger.
planning a few small trips and such before i go. i want to go to NY to see the statue of liberty. i might go to DC for a day or two also. would like to get to Valley Forge also. we'll see what i get a chance to do.
