Happy New Year everyone!
And it wouldn’t be a real new year without predicting something. As you all know, we have friends over for New Year’s Eve and everyone draws a Tarot card. Or at least tries to… it’s not as easy as it sounds, you know.
Right. Everyone got a deck of their choice - we own several ones and since everyone knows we’re going to draw cards, they are very welcome to bring their own. It was quite a colourful mixture this year.
Statistics: We had thee Swords (of which to were the same), four Cups, two Wands and one Coins/Pentacles. And two cards from Major Arkana. A little bit of everything.
My beautiful beloved one drew King of Swords.
Swords is connected to air and to the mind. The King being the ruler of the suite of course represents a very intelligent person. Someone with a really sharp mind, someone who can draw connections very fast and come to conclusion based on facts. No bias. Clear head. Being an expert. Since my beautiful beloved one is very intelligent, that’s a nice card for her. Maybe she’s going to meet someone who is good company to discuss difficult problems. Who helps her solve problems or maybe even presents a nice riddle to solve. The King of Swords inspires new ways of thinking, challenges people to look at things from a different angle. Come up with new ideas and maybe create something really innovative. Even though he’s not really a creative force. Because for real creativity, you need more than great ideas and a sharp mind.
Merle drew the same card (from a different deck). She thinks hers is about her studies. After all, she’s a Matterhorn, we like to ask questions and lean new things. And we like facts, too. The house of explorers. She was sure that she did great in her Midterms before, but now she’s even more sure. And she’ll prove us all next week when the results come in.
Lir drew Three of Cups.
With Cups, we’re talking emotions - which is not exactly something Lir likes to do with lots of people. So we concentrated on Thee of Cups being a really positive card. It’s about being thankful for you got and celebrating the good things in life. Sharing your success with your friends and spending time with them - always in a good and happy way. As said, celebrating. So maybe Lir will win lots of Quidditch matches with his team this year, that’s a great reason to celebrate. Even if he doesn’t have any really good friend on the team. They’re team mates, that’s the next best thing. And it can’t be wrong to look forward to a successful year, no matter what kind of success. After all, Lir needs to get some certificates in basic subjects, so he won’t have to attend boring basic classes when he gets to a School of Magic instead of learning fun things.
Liebreiz drew Queen of Wand, which in the deck she used was called Clubs. Sounds a bit violent, doesn’t it?
The Queen of Wands is a very outgoing person. She makes new friends easily, she knows how to get things moving and she hold the reins firmly in her hands. No one’s going to tell her what to do, she has her own plans and she’s strong enough to make them real. So, another positive card, promising a very successful year. It’s not necessarily about having a great new idea, but about bringing no matter what kind of idea to life. Find something you love and set to it. Don’t listen to people telling you you can’t do it. You can. Just stay open minded and embrace everyone who wants to join in. Lead a big group of people forward and built something great. Liebreiz at once thought of the house they inherited last year and the plans they have for it. A really good sign.
Schönheit drew Seven of Swords.
Well, a Seven is always complicated. Seven is the old magical number, so you never really know what’s in store when you draw one. There might always be a hidden meaning you need to find.
And Seven of Swords being a trickster card doesn’t make things easier to interpret. It might be a warning that someone is trying to trick you, trying something behind your back, that you should look out and be careful. Or it might indicate that you need to be cunning, resort to something new and unheard oft o reach your goal. Don’t be too trusting or risk something extrondenary. Check the facts and use your mind. Keep one step ahead, if you can. And don’t try to use raw force to get your way - subtle manipulation will do the trick.
Wencke drew Ten of Cups.
So we’re back to being happy. Ten of Cups is about happiness, but not the wild, lively, celebratory one, but the calm, warm and deep satisfaction of being where you belong. See all the small pieces of beauty and happiness in your everyday life, collect them, treasure them, share them. True happiness is always shared, no one can be truly happy all on their own. You can become a source of happiness for others, too, which might be even better. Bring joy to everyone around you. Wencke thinks it promises a great harvest and a rich year, and yes, she will share everything with everyone around her. She always does, and she likes giving, so having lots of good things to give is even better.
Phil drew Two of Cups.
The first thing everyone things when seeing Two of Cups is: New love. Maybe because we all start to study Tarot at school at about the same age… So of course Phil pulled a face the second he saw the card, for he knew what was coming. And how could we disappoint him? After all, he’s a very reliable and serious guy, and he’s happily married… So after we had some fun teasing him, we decided it might signify a different kind of new partnership. A new colleague at work he’ll get along great with. Or maybe it simply means harmony, the end of a quarrel which has been raging on for years. Or, even better, becoming friends with someone who right now is his enemy. Phil claims he has no enemies, but who knows?
Jolanda drew Nine of Coins (also known as Pentacles, but in her deck, they were Coins).
Any Nine means „not quite there“. You’re close, really, really close, but there’s still work to do. Don’t give up, don’t be lazy, put in your time and your effort, for the promise of success is there. It’s close. Nine of Coins might indicate a nice bit of luck helping you along, or someone supporting your, but you still need to keep working and not lose sight of your goal. Since it’s Coins, it might be work related, or dealing with galleons. Or with creating a comfortable, lasting him. Would fit nice with the harmony-connection of Phil’s card.
I drew Three of Wands.
Wands is connected with movement, but Three of Wands is about judging your movements. Look before you leap, that kind of thing. Take a second to consider your actions, don’t go charging blindly ahead, it might be the wrong direction. Stay open minded, look at the facts, don’t try to twist them to make them fit your ideas. Problems will be solved, but not by rushing them. Take your time, think, than act.
Always good advice, especially since I tend to first act and then think. Not a positive a card as many others drawn, but still quite good. Maybe I just needed the reminder, so the cards made sure I got it.
Fantômée drew King of Cups and the Tower.
Yes, that’s possible. Sometimes you pick a card and when you turn it over, you realise that there is another card stuck to it, and that was exactly the case. Even more, both cards were reversed. The only reversed cards we had all day. And then two at the same time.
King of Cups is about the connection of intelligence and intuition. He’s a good ruler, he is caring and generous, but he’s also creative. He gets things done, but sometimes in unusual ways. He likes the arts and if he’s not an artist himself, he supports them. He likes people who have open hearts and open minds. Since he came up reversed it might be a warning to not get lost in dreams and ideas, not to be lazy and daydream all the time. Stay grounded, make sure your dreams don’t get all airy, or they won’t come true.
The Tower is connected to sudden change, for better or worse. Something unexpected happens, you have to deal with it, no matter what. You might suddenly find yourself free of your chains, or you might find yourself lost... Or you might be the reason for other people having to deal with sudden change. Do something unexpected - might also be great fun.
And finally, Malte drew Wheel of Fortune.
For some reason I think that Malte always draws a card from the Major Arkana. He says it’s not true, but we were too lazy to go and check all the cards he drew the previous years. Never mind.
Wheel of Fortune is exactly that: Opportunities. Movement. Chances present themselves, make the most of them. Take action. Don’t stand back and let the wheel just pull you along - take control. Not of the wheel but of what life throws your way. Make choices, choose your path. Promise and warning - but at least things won’t get boring.
I guess that’s the one thing we all can be sure of: Things won’t get boring. Life has too many miracles in store, you just need to keep your eyes open to see them.
