Well after quitting UO I thought I would not play another online game for a very long time. The combination of great game, the Knights of Solamnia which I led as Grand Master and the great friends I met, made it the highlight in my time online. When I retired, I did so for good reasons, The Knighthood was very hard to run, especially trying to keep the spirit of RP alive it. I was single again after a many years with my first GF, Emma and I had my army career really beginning to go places.
I swore I would not return until I found many of those things above. Lots of my friends tempted me for this game or that, notably EQ, DAOC, AC and more recently WOW. Yet there was not the allure which I felt when I first found, got excited and started playing UO.
So a few weeks ago I spent some time reading about Lord of the Rings Online (www.lotro.com) and being a big fan of Middle Earth (as most of us are!) I was intrigued to see if they could make this fantastic world of Tolkien into a great game. Gradually I got more and more drawn as I read about classes, races, crafting, the lands of Middle Earth and the fact that Turbine a well respected company was making it, and was well known for regular updates to their worlds.
So the other day I mentioned in passing to Pete and Ali, two very addicted Middle Earth people (whom I had the pleasure of attending their wedding last year, WHICH was a Middle Earth Wedding) about this game. Within a short space they very very keen and I began looking up my old Knighthood ICQ lists. I think in the space of a few days most of the people I spoke too about it were interested or signed up almost at that moment! The fact that most of them are very dear friends from the Proud Lion makes me all the more excited, because that was where UO began for me so many years ago.
And the fact that my dear Bethie has been lured as well, just makes me smile all the more! So at the moment it looks like the following (excuse old RP names, people tend to know you by these!) Me (though not as Darrius!), Rielle, Nightstalker, Damien Creel, Neel, Ariell, Edge and Set. Now I believe a name is missing from this list, because what would the world be without the graceful and intelligent likes of Enchantment?
There might be a few more old Knights, but I think it will be the aim to keep the 'fellowship' to a small size, based on our friendships. *chuckle* Am I to organise this fellowship, most likely, but it won't be difficult I think. A fun, light, social 'fellowship' where we can renew our gaming bonds and our regular day to day contact which drops off when you don't game as much. I miss that, I miss the friends I met in UO and the time we regularly spent together. I am just glad that a core group (mostly Proud Lion!) has stayed in contact.
So I salute you all, To a brave new world, to new adventures and continuing friendships!
