In this series Warhol used much darker imagery, such as electric chairs and car accidents. This series also included a piece in which Warhol used eight different images of Jacqueline Kennedy taken just before and after the assassination of her husband. Whereas Wharhol’s Flowers use the same motifs, it differed in arrangement, color and cropping. Later he would reuse this method in his paining of Marylin Monroe. Wether or not Warhol had intentions of making a statement between Jacqueline Kennedy and Marylin is unknown. Andy Warhols friend (Henry Gledzahler) convinced him to drop the death and disaster series and do work on flowers in a magazine as an alternative subject. As a result Warhols series turned into glyphs of the joy in the form of poppy flowers. These were highly sought after and according to Edward Sanders, predicted the american flower power movement three years ahead of time. After being shot in 1968, by Valrie Solanis, an incident that almost was fatal, his work was changed forever. Now his backgrounds became more outlandish and obscure.
