I'm ANTI-AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL

Sep 20, 2006 21:58

At this very moment, I predict 75% of Byer (merchandisers, planners/allocators, technical writers) is watching America's Next Top Model. I, however, am not one of them. I HATE the very idea of America's Next Top Model. I hate the very initials that represent this sorry excuse for a show -- A.N.T.M.

Why?

Because it's a show about NOTHING that matters. There is no ends that justifies its means. The "end" is a cover girl ...blahblahblah...the "means", making every girl that is IN it, watching it, or in any way associate with it, a little less of a person. It makes each girl feel SORRY for themselves. Sorry for not being pretty enough, sorry for not being skinny enough, sorry for being too short, sorry for being normal. To you, I may sound like a ranting loser, but honestly, I gave this show a try. I watched at least one episode of every season and it still is as uninteresting as the first wasted hour. This show must end.

Did you know that 90% of the contestant of A.N.T.M. had either developed an eating disorder AND/OR had cosmetic/plastic surgery done AFTER the end of the show. That means, if you didn't think they were skinny enough, or naturally beauty enough, they suffered through artifical means to become who they think the "industry" wants.

75% of Byer is watching this show because Melissa Rose, Melrose as she is called in the show, used to be a merchandiser for us. She got fired after less than 3 months because she lacked good judgement. So instead, she's now living the dream of being A.N.T.M. I do respect her for bouncing back as quickly as she did. She didn't let one short coming ruin what she wanted. That's good ... but why is this worthy of my attention? Why is this show worthy of anyone's attention? Do these girls actually win what they always wanted?

Some of you may think that I'm being a hypocrite. I work in the fashion industry. I've been known to say that this business has always been my dream, but why am I against it? Well, I'm not. I work in this industry because I love this industry. I love the decision making -- the power that it holds. I love the turnover of each season, of nothing ever being constant. I love the models, I love the glamour, I love...I love almost every thing about it except when women begin to degrade themselves in the name of becoming the next model (beauty).

Some people are born to do what they do, and some...well, they're just posers. Why can't people just accept who they are without being something they're not. I have to admit that I do step out of the house with a different personality every day. It's revealed through my clothes and make up. However, on the inside, I'm still who I know is true. I dress up because it's fun/creative/unboring; not because I need the approval of my peers. I could care less - because once you start to care, you'll lose focus of who you truly are. HONESTLY, Who are they to you except for being the background scene of your every day. It's you who you come home to at the end of the day. It's you who has to love yourself after the clothes are off and the make up are gone. Are you truly happy in the end?

This is the reason why I dislike this show. There is less good than evil this show portrays. While sitting there for the first hour, I felt myself feeling more depress about my being. Oh..boo-hoo, I'm not a model. I wish I was X because she has such long black hair. I wish I was Y because she has such great attitude, I wish I was Z because..."Like, Oh-my-god, she's GORGEOUS." I rather put my brain in a blender and press puree+blend+crush all at the same time than to watch another show of A.N.T.M.

So for all the fans out there, I'm not telling you to boycott America's Next Top Model, but please, don't ask me if I watch yesterday's episode because my answer will be a "HEEEELLLLLL NO."

s2, mwah.
