Overall, tonight was a good night. Except for this:
Three women had dinner at one of my tables; they were pretty dull, nothing eventful. Their bill was $95 and change. They put cash in the check presenter and left. I counted the cash, and they had left me $195.00!! Holy shit! Clearly a mistake, but I was hoping they wouldn't come back to fix it. The other servers and I got cautiously excited, since this would give us each about $20 extra at the end of the night. I was even nice enough to tell them about it and not pocket it all for myself! About an hour later, one of the women comes back. Of course. She says her friend had called her, panicking, saying she left all her money at the restaurant. I very kindly give her the money and the original check, joking with her ("I'm a good server, but I'm not THAT good!" har har har). I walk away to let her have her privacy while she figures out how much to leave. I'm thinking of course she'll reward my honesty, and maybe I'll get 25%. She gives me the money and the check, thanking me again, and leaves. I go back and count the money she's left me. Keep in mind, the original bill was $95 and change. I count $105.00. That can't be right. I count again. Yep. Cunt left me $10.00 on $95.00. Just barely 10%. WTF?!? I shoulda just pretended like I didn't know what she was talking about and taken my extra $100.00, like most other servers would. Then again, I wouldn't have been able to live with myself, and hopefully the karma will come around in another way.
