waitomo caves
Ya, this morning was a bit rushed, and I'm also pretty tired. Our days have been pretty full, and my backs been bugging me during my sleep a bit, so i wake up needing a few more hours of sleep.
Today we were at waitomo caves which were wicked. I didn't save my dad and Jay from a walabee, but I did jump off a waterfall backwards in a rubber tube. We had to climb through the caves and the first few minutes were spent lying in our tubes making ourselves as flat as possible because we only had about two feet of clearance between water and rock. Our guide was really good, as funny as our guide in Churchill only with a Kiwi accent.
Then we got to a point and our guides told us to turn off our headlamps. (we were all decked out in wet suits and helmets and rubber boots) And we looked up and there are these gloworms which look kind of like fireflies in the dark of the cave, except they didn't flicker. And they made these long "fishing lines" to catch their food... I think it was kind of like a spider's web material. As our guide put it. They spend all their time sleeping, eating, mating, and fishing... not a bad lifestyle, eh?
