Well . . . It's Finally Happened

Apparently it took 24 years for 3 of my 4 wisdom teeth to finally make an appearance....and not in a nice way. Can I just say OW OW OWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW! *sniffles*

It all started last Wednesday with what I thought was just a teeny weeny cold sore on the outer part of the gums on the upper right side of jaw. No biggie. I figured if I took some cold sore medicine it would go bye bye. Bah. WRONG!

Thursday my ear felt achy and sore and I could feel the inflamation and soreness all the way down the right side of my throat almost to the clavicle. That and the lower left jaw was starting to feel sore on the right side as well, towards the back, near where my ear was. Evil evil. So then I started freaking out and thinking it might be an ear infection. I'd had one last year, but that was one after many many years of not having an ear infection and I was NOT wanting to repeat the painful experience. However, before panicking and calling my physician, I decided (well...really, Jani made the suggestion and I said sure...why not) to wait until Friday to see how things went after taking some IB Profen. If things were still bad, THEN we could call the doctor.

Friday rolled around and the ear ache was gone, but now my jaw was feeling...well, swollen and sore. Just on the right side, mind you. But it wasn't feeling swollen on the outside (like puffy cheek type of swollen). Instead, it felt swollen on the inside. Yucky. And the pain had just barely started to radiate over to the upper left part of my jaw, right in the back. The IB Profen helped take away the slight pain that was starting on the left, but the pain on the upper and lower right jaw were still there in the background and refused to go away. They just sort of dulled themselves to below average throbbing. It was also around this time that solid foods and anything requiring even the slightest chewing became too painful for me to eat. I've been living on yogurt, pudding, and soups since. Well, at least I'm sticking to my diet now. *l*

You'd THINK that I would've gotten the hint by now that it might be my wisdom teeth. Considering it was hurting where the wisdom teeth would normally be pushing their way out. But nooooo....it'd taken them this long to make a peep, and before this there'd never been any sign of them.

It wasn't until Saturday afternoon, while Jani (hurtta) and I were babysitting 2 of my cousins, that I FINALLY figured out what the probable cause of all my pain was. *smacks forehead* Talk about being obvious, if only I'd known what to clue in on. *l* Being the curious kitty that I am, I decided that I just had to take a looksie inside my mouth and see what was going on. So, whilst there was a small moment of respite, I made my way to the bathroom mirror, grabbed a flash light, found a dental tool to move my cheek away from the offending sore spots, and took a good look. Couldn't see a thing on the upper left and right jaws where it was hurting.

But what I saw on the lower part of my right jaw is what gave me an idea of what the problem might be. On the outer part of the jaw, just after the last molar, there was a nice hole in my gums...and what did I see peeking through that hole? But of course! Mr. tooth and his sharp points. That was kind of freaky, needless to say. Bleh.

Then, on the other side of that same molar, there was a section of the gum that looked like a needle had had it's way. Little cuts and pokes were dotting the area and blood was seeping through some of the spots. Fun fun.

Since then:
1) The IB Profen has been upped to 2 tablets a dose,
2) The pain is now refusing to be ousted on both sides of the upper jaw and the right side of my lower jaw,
3) and the pain has also started making itself vaguely known down the right side of my throat and along the roof of my mouth. This problem, at least, has subsided with the IB Profen doses...for now.

The Xrays from today's dental visit confirmed my suspicions. 3 wisdom teeth to remove. The 2 upper ones are going to be easy to get out, according to Dr. Wong, since they're not growing at an angle, into any of my molars. However, the lower right wisdom tooth is growing into the last molar, which means the oral surgeon will most likely have to cut the tooth into sections to remove it safely. Fun fun. I just hope they knock me out completely for this part. Hmph. $120 bucks for x-rays today. *SIGH* At least it's happening before the weddings. :p

In any case, this Thursday is the consultation meeting with the oral surgeon. They get to make an appointment for the surgery with met at this consultation, tell me what will happen, what I have to do, etc....and of course hit me with an estimate so that I know how much financial AND physical pain I'll be in afterwards. Bah. As if the weddings weren't expensive.

It doesn't help that I've heard that the general recovery time for removing 3-4 wisdom teeth all at once is about 7 days. But! I did calculate that as long as I recover within those 7 days AND I'm able to book the surgery for no later than March 4th, then I'll be able to eat solid foods at my bridal shower instead of being limited to just mush and liquid. Then again, considering that the 4th is a Saturday, that means having surgery the day after my consultation. *lmao* Great. That'll happen. *SIIIIIIGH*

So, just giving you a heads up, cinderfox and mommyofbuddy! I hope this doesn't put a damper in any of the food plans, oh bridesmaids ladies. I shall definitely keep you gals posted, though. *l* The powers that be from above are absolutely determined that I stick to my diet and not splurge on the day of the shower. *purses lips* Hmmm...maybe I can convince them to let me splurge on my birthday. *g*
