intimacy and obstinacy
Kristen invited me to join her for dinner last week. Kristen is the woman I asked to marry me and she shot me down. We still hang out sometimes. Anyway after a few minutes of catching up she mentioned a guy who broke up with her and that became the conversation for the rest of the evening. She kept wondering aloud what she could have done differently, why he doesn't want her, etc. Not the first time someone acted like they want to hang out with me when they really just want to talk about a failed relationship, but the irony this time around was... awful.
She drove me home and gave me a large framed print from her trunk. A Kristen original, inspired by me. I said I would send her a picture once I had it up in my apartment. I'm kind of notorious for not following through on simple shit like that, so I grabbed a hammer and some tiny nails and put the damn thing up as soon as I got home. I sent her a picture. She didn't respond. Women.
Grandma has been "dying" for a few months. One of my uncles lives out there - a mile from Alaine's place - and he didn't tell Alaine that grandma was going to the hospital. She found out after I got a Facebook message from Ellen, who practically lives in Mexico. Half of the updates turned out to be false alarms. My little cunt brother in Utah started giving me shit for not calling grandma to say goodbye. I told him where he can shove it. Bob visits grandma about as often as I do. He's only up in this drama so he can tell people that he "knew" she was going to die. After the 94 quake he tried to convince everyone that he was sensitive to the vibrations of tectonic plates.
I have to assume that someone will check for a pulse before announcing the death ON FACEBOOK.
My eyes are starting to burn from looking at screens all day. I still need to talk about training n00bs at work, travel plans, health issues... Ok. I'll set a reminder on my phone to come back tomorrow. Sleep tight, infinite void.
