It's not that easy...

CHAPTER ONE (1)

Tuesday evening. Alone. Standing in front of the Church. Rain pouring down. Everyone must be in already, I thought to myself. It started raining two days ago and it hasn't stopped since. We never had sunny weather in November, but this year was worse than the years I could remember.
"What are you doing silly?! Get inside!", a girl shouted. "I was just enjoying the great weather, I do like the rain you know!", I said while walking in. The girl who shouted at me was Claire, bit of a nutter but she has a great personality. "I can imagine you like rain on a hot summer day, but it's cold outside and the rain only makes it worse!", she said while looking at me funny. I smiled at her and hung my coat on a rack. "Have you heard? There's a new girl coming to join us today", Claire said while walking towards the choir. I got excited and followed her asking if she knew who it was. I always liked new people joining our choir. And we haven't had a new one since forever. Before Claire could answer me there were loud noises coming from the entrance hall, it sounded like people yelling at each other. An awkward silence fell as we all turned around. "That might be her", Claire whispered. "Strange way to welcome yourself in to a Church though". I giggled.

Waiting for someone to break the silence we all looked surprised when we saw a nice looking blonde girl walking in. "I'LL HATE YOU FOREVER IF YOU LEAVE ME HERE!", the girl screamed to the man behind her.
I could not believe what I've just heard. She talks like some skank from a bad neighborhood! This could not be a Christian we're dealing with here, she can't be! The Pastor cleared his throat and asked for silence. "Everyone, welcome Sian. She is here to join our choir", he said while Sian took a deep breath. "Hi Sian!", we all said in harmony, but Sian didn't reply. She sat down on the first chair she walked by and stared at the ground.

This must be a joke, right? That girl doesn't belong here, she doesn't believe in God. I know that we need to give everyone a chance at finding their believes, but this girl seems lost in every way. She dresses like, well not like my sister Rosie, but that skirt is too short to wear in Church. And what about that language earlier?! Was that her dad she was yelling at? Sometimes I might hate my dad in thoughts, but I would never say that to him. I wouldn't dare!! We need to get rid of this girl, she is no good.
We're a choir, a Christian choir. What will people think when they see her standing here, singing with us?! Look at her, she is not even trying to fit in. She's not even faking it, I thought to myself while I was watching her. The practice was almost over and the girl, what's her name again, didn't open her mouth once since she's got here.

"Sophie, can I talk to you for a minute?", the Pastor asked me while the choir continued singing. I followed him to the entrance hall. "I need to talk to you about that new girl, Sian. She's doesn't know anyone from around here and I need you to help her fit in". The little smile I showed on my face soon vanished. He can't be serious, right? "I know you'll probably think it's impossible, but her dad insisted she'd stay", he continued. "He thinks we can help her with her bad behavior, through the love of God. Just think about it and try to talk to her. We'll talk about it next week". He walked back in the Church and left me standing there, thinking he must have gone mad. Greaaaat! Now I even have to speak to her!

After practice I directly walked up to Sian, just to get it over with. "Hi Sian, can we talk for a minute?", I said to her with a faked smile. "Who are you? Some God freak? I'm not talking to you!", she replied with her brows showing she didn't like the idea. At that moment I really wanted to walk away from her, but the Pastor was looking at me, giving me signals I should try again. "Look, I know that you don't want to be here, but can't we just make the best of it? The Pastor told me you need to keep coming here until you're able to behave yourself", I said with the underlying thought she could just behave here and get gone sooner". I noticed a change in her expression, she suddenly looked as if she just lost something valuable. "Argh, I can't believe this! How can he do this to me? He is making my life a living hell!", she said angry. "I need to go now.. Before you make it even worse, freak!", she added.

Is this girl nuts? I tried to help her and now she just turned her back on me, saying I'm the freak? She clearly lost her mind!, I thought while putting my coat on.

The next morning I got up early, just to make sure I had enough time to eat a proper breakfast and put on decent make-up for a typical day at school.
"Morning mom, morning dad", I said while walking into the kitchen. They were both surprised I was up so early and looked at each other. "Is that our daughter who just walked in?", my dad joked. "Didn't you sleep well last night?", my mom asked worried. "No, I just wanted to eat a proper breakfast with you guys this morning. You know, some nice family time", I replied being serious. I sat down next to my dad and started making myself some toast with jelly.
"How was choir practice last night?", my mom asked a few minutes later. "It was alright..", I muttered not wanting her to ask more. "Alright? Doesn't sound so well if you ask me! Something happened?", she asked without my willingness to answer. "It was just..", I said while I felt myself getting mad inside. "There was this new girl. She came in screaming to her dad, like some nutter and then the Pastor wanted me to help her fit in, but she's not even a Christian!", I told with a slightly aggressive tone of voice.
"Aha!", my dad said. "She's like your sister isn't she?", he asked with a sarcastic smile on this face. "It's not funny dad! I need to make sure she behaves the next couple of weeks, otherwise she will never get to leave the choir!", I said worried. My mom tried to comfort me and gave me a hug. "You'll know what to do Sophie, you're smart enough to figure something out", she said while holding me.

I got upstairs to get ready for school. Today we finally got a new timetable, which was way better than the one before. It also meant we got some new classes and new people to meet, so I wanted to look my best. After putting on some mascara I ran down, grabbed my books and closed the front door behind me. The bus was arriving soon so I need to hurry. My friends Chesney and Ryan where already at the bus stop when I got there. "Morning!", Chesney and Ryan said simultaneously. "Morning guys! Are you ready for some new exciting classes?", I joked. We laughed and soon the bus arrived.

The first class that morning wasn't as new as we'd hoped. It was our English class, with the same people in it and sadly enough the same boring teacher. Ten minutes past when someone knocked on our classroom door. "Come in", our teacher said. "Ah! You must be Sian", he said when the same blonde that Sophie met yesterday walked in.
"You've got to be kidding me!", I whispered hoping nobody would hear me. "What did you just say?", Ryan asked. "Do you know her? She's stunning!! Who is she?".
I couldn't believe Ryan liked her, what's there to like?! Yes, she does have gorgeous blonde hair and bright blue eyes. But that isn't special! There are more blondes at this school with blue eyes! I need to talk Ryan out of thinking he should talk to her! "She is crazy! She came to my choir practice last night and didn't even say anything. I heard she has to keep coming to practice till she behaves normal", I said to Ryan who could not keep his eyes off of Sian. "RYAN! She's not worth it, do you hear me? She's nuts!", I added.

"You can sit over there, next to Sophie", I heard the teacher say. And before I knew it Sian was sitting next to me asking to have a look in my book, considering the fact she didn't have hers yet. Chesney and Ryan turned around to introduce them selfs to Sian. Ryan was ridiculous and even started to stutter when he spoke to her, but Sian seemed to enjoy the attention. I didn't want to worry about it, but that we're my friends she was talking to. She wouldn't steal them from me, would she? I mean, look at those two.. looking shy and in love.. Pfff, now she's not only ruining my choir, she's also ruining my friendships!

When class was over I got out of the room as fast as I could. I didn't want to spend one more minute seeing Sian wrapping the boys around her finger. I sat down in the school cafeteria and opened my lunchbox. My mom always makes me something nice and puts in a special treat, so I thought my lunch break couldn't be ruined. But yes, it could. Chesney sat down next to me, followed by Ryan and Sian. "It's like they're already in love or something", Chesney said a bit irritated. "Well I'm glad it ain't you. She's a bitch!", I popped out. "Sorry, I didn't meant to swear. I just really don't like her!", I added disappointed. I could not believe I let her get to me like that. Getting me to swear and everything. This girl is trouble and I need to keep my friends away from her. I couldn't help but notice that Ryan soon was all over Sian and she didn't stop him. I need to stop this before it's to late and I lose my friends.

"Well, she can't be that bad, now can she?", Chesney asked me. "She's a little blonde girl, that hasn't done anything remotely insane until now. At least not since I've seen her", he added while looking at her. "Maybe not, but I've seen another side of her and I just don't like it when people aren't who they really are. She's playing a game, I'm warning you!", I replied to him while I've slapped him on this arm trying to get his attention. After I finished eating my lunch I stood up and pulled Ryan away from Sian, "I need to speak with you", I said while he tried to get loose. "I'm not joking here, ok? That girl is trouble. You need to stay away from her!", I said to him angry. "And who are you? My mom? I like her and I'm not going to avoid her because you want me to. Give it a rest, Soph!", Ryan said while taking my hands of him. He walked back to our table and apologized to Sian for my behavior.

Right, what's there left for me to do now? They obviously haven't seen her like I did and maybe they won't cause they're to blind for her. Why do my friends need to be typical boys with no brains when it comes to bad women? Luckily the day went by fast and before I knew it I was on my way home. Sian was in all my classes so I'll probably have to deal with here sooner or later. But better soon than later, I thought to myself. I really need to find a way to get her gone.
