Hangman
It was three am, and Ray Kowalski was doing the stupidest thing he'd ever done in his life. He and Vecchio were playing Hangman on stakeout, and it was Ray's turn. And sure, having the hots for your partner was all kinds of a bad idea, but what Ray was doing? It was in a whole new class of stupid.
"What?" Vecchio leaned over, squinting, trying to make out the letters. He smelled good. Ray wanted to lick him. "Kowalski. You sure this is a word?"
"Uh-huh." It was more of a phrase, but whatever.
"So, this mysterious word of yours," Vecchio said, in his of course the drugs weren't yours voice, "has an i, a space, another i, space, an e, and a space?"
"The spaces got letters," Ray offered helpfully.
"L," Vecchio guessed correctly, and then missed the next three. He should be out of guesses, but Ray gave the little stick figure a tie and told Vecchio to guess again. Finally after a few more tries, Vecchio had the whole word and his hangman had a little cross necklace and a big nose to go along with the tie. "I can't even sound that out, Kowalski. Ilik-oo? Is that Inuit? You learn that word from Fraser?"
Ray wondered if this might be easier with a game of I Spy.
I Spy someone who wants to blow you, Vecchio.
Vecchio was still sounding the word out. "Eye-lie-k-u--?" He went quiet as he figured it out. "Kowalski."
Ray looked over at him. Vecchio was grinning. "That was really lame, Stanely."
Before Ray could say I take it back or it's your fault for smelling good and smiling like that!, Vecchio leaned over and kissed him.
Game over.
