recap. With a cat on my lap. Recat.

Friday was the wedding, and getting up there for it. Went alright. Drank a lot of scotch. As you do, when it's provided. Didn't embarrass myself too badly, hopefully.

Saturday I didn't feel so great, for some reason. We headed home, completely exhausted. Finished Act II of Dragon Age II. I'll write up my full thoughts once I've finished the game, entirely, but some of the complaints are more valid the more I play. That said, I'd say it's still got some very good ideas.

Sunday, I started a kit hefeweizen. Played some more Dragon Age. Hung out with Pat and Jen, watched the movie "Saved" and some Adventure Time. "Saved" was an interesting movie. A bit like Mean Girls, but not as funny. Lots more serious, lots more slowly paced than a lot of comedies or even movies I've seen lately. It was kind of focused on having a message in kind of a late 90s way, but it wasn't completely after-school special about it. I can't say how accurate its portrayal of an explicitly Christian high school is, not having attended one, but I thought the difficulty of reconciling traditional teachings with a very different modern world was good. So it made me think a bit, which is more than I expected.

I liked it a lot more than Juno, which is the only other movie on teen pregnancy (spoilers!!) I've seen in a long time. I did not like Juno, especially on reflection.

Went back and played some more Dragon Age II, what I suspect is a decent chunk of the third act. Perhaps we'll finish it tonight. Unlike DA1, DA2 has very few unambiguously "heroic" characters. Or even ones that I like all the time. But I'll have more to say about that, too, once I finish the game and see how their stories tie up. I get that it's part of the grimdarkness of Dragon Age that you can't fix everyone, or everything, but ... well, I'll wait until my spoiler-filled reflection for more.

Busy week coming up. Pirates!, maybe Team Rocket, then DorkCon on the weekend. Gotta get my Paranoia pregens made up. And clean the house. And get my paper submitted. And figure out a Halloween costume. And make sure we're on point for department conference planning. And workout.

Other than that, though, it's all easy.

weekend, movies, games
