Last week was not a good week.
I was tired the whole time, and no matter when I went to sleep, it didn't seem to help. I'm not sure if it was a minor bug or simply the effect of having a massive low-pressure front overhead the whole time. (I've heard a lot of anecdotal evidence about weather and headaches, but it seems like a tricky thing to test in a controlled study.)
I am behind on my grading. There is an absolute deadline for both classes, though, so that can't continue.
I am trying to take a little pride in my hobbies and make time for them, however. It feels like - with my shattered attention span and some self-deprecation - some of my hobbies have slid into a category of "do this if the time can be squeezed in." Without much planning, without much organization. So my brewing stuff is a huge mess, the game room is more of a junk room, and the kegs don't work. Several of the times I've done all-grain beers, it's been such a hectic, stressful mess, I've put off even thinking about bottling the beer or making more until I had to.
I'm working on it, I really am. We hung out with Shane on Friday. He is someone who takes pride in his hobbies, and it shows. We made characters for his game, which sounds awesome. I may have volunteered to run Paranoia in the future. And he put the idea of running Werewolf with a non-WW system into my head, evilly. I mean, that was pretty much the sort of thing I got the Dresden Files RPG for..
I haven't had time to make some of these refinements to my own set-ups, but it's going to be a matter of making time. And, if even some of them work, they should save me time in the future.
So I got some bricks to put around the turkey burner and I'm retooling part of my all-grain set-up, mostly the cooler. The bricks were cheap and I had a gift card to Menards, but they look much nicer and should cut down the effects of the wind on the turkey burner flame.
My last experiment with the cat box organization was a failure. I got the stuff while so tired and out of it, and it never quite fit together right. This time I hope I've thought it through more accurately. I am trying a mix of something new and something old now. I also vacuumed up all the loose litter, so we should be able to tell if it's working.
I realized something else last week, while I was feeling crappy. I had been sliding towards more and more negativity - defining myself increasingly in terms of things I did not like, rather than ones I do. I don't think I'm terribly good at that - I think it is better for me to put things I don't like out of mind and focus on the things I do like. There's actually quite a few of them!
The house isn't clean, really, but the dishes are done, some food is started, and the catboxes are clean. It will have to be enough for now.
Okay, enough words. Grading. Music. Tea.
