Paul ran D&D this time - which was a nice break for me, as I was feeling stressed out, and a fun session in its own right.
What happened: We went to a bar and everyone did their thing for a while, and it turned out that our previous employer is a member of a mysterious faction! A mysterious faction with links to a one-time previous antagonist of ours who Jill's character absolutely hates.
She stabbed the new associate 4-5 times but it turned out that he was undead and fairly unmoved by the experience. Then Jen had to go and we ended up calling it a night for the game. Maybe next week we can wrap up the current Mouse Guard thing and decide if we want to go for a full campaign, or something else.
I find myself going back and forth on starting the next game, which is irritating. Once I have that as a project I can just work on it, but until then I have a hard time making up my mind.
I played some Pokemon Heart Gold this week, as mentioned. It's pretty fun. But if I spend too much time thinking about the established Pokemon stuff, the less inspired I feel. After 15 years and a million spin-offs, the actual Pokemon story is pretty crowded and just full. You could weave together a story that bobs and weaves between all the established stuff, or you could just run with the general "feel" of it. I'm leaning towards the "general feel" approach, obviously. It requires less research but leaves more room for the players to affect the plot.
This is why I will never DM Forgotten Realms or Warhammer, coincidentally. I just don't care enough about studying someone else's backstory in order to make everything fit with it.
It's something that happens with long series or even webcomics, too. They get so top-heavy and hard to get into.
I also want to run either Mouse Guard or ApocWorld in the near future. Should I run 2 games at once? I'm not going to be able too start until after this next conference, so it's a bit of a moot point I suppose.
I want to watch more Deadwood, but Boardwalk Empire will do. I have not been nearly so focused this week - whether pressure fronts or allergies are to blame, I need to get my focus back.
After RPG stuff, we watched some more Gravity Falls, which continues to be amazing. Time travel! Tried to watch Persona but Pat and Jill weren't really feeling it.
