Hoo boy. My head feels like all the thinking goop inside has been scooped out.
Last week was really social, even before leaving for the wedding. Birthday meet-ups on both Monday and Tuesday; Wednesday was just getting ready. Thursday we traveled up; Friday we went to Washington. Weekend was wedding stuff. Yesterday was travel and exhaustion.
I have a ton more to say about the trip, but my thoughts are still a jumble. I don't think I've really had a good night's sleep in 4-5 days, until last night. So things are beginning to fall back into place, but they're not there yet.
Diet detox fell by the wayside while traveling, of course. I do not know if my cast-iron stomach has abandoned me or I had some kind of bug, but I found myself feeling unusually queasy for the last couple days of the trip. I don't recall eating anything especially dodgy, especially by my standards..
I am looking forward to getting back to brown rice and veggies, but I could still do with pizza..
I finished two books on the trip, which was nice. One was Snow Crash, which was awesome from beginning to end. The second was Zodiac, which is also by Neal Stephenson, but is not as strong of a book. It's not bad but it has no world-building and only one plot, where Snow Crash has a couple things going on at virtually all points. There is so much going on in Snow Crash that I am still not sure I got it all, but I really enjoyed getting swept up in the ride.
Regardless, it was nice to just devour a couple books the way I used to instead of stretching them over weeks like I seem to, most of the time. I have finished 7 books this year by my count:
- The Magician King
- The Hunger Games
- Johannes Cabal, Necromancer
- Johannes Cabal, Detective,
- Johannes Cabal and the Fear Institute
- Snow Crash
- Zodiac
I think this is above the average for Americans. I have started and read a significant fraction of a couple more - Enterprise of Death, that Ravenloft one, etc. And do the Mouse Guard comics count as books? Hm.
