When thinking about my time-travel RPG idea I realized that a lot of the basic ideas are found in both Chrono Trigger and FFXIII-2. But, since I haven't played either of those, I'm not going to stress about it too much. I also had the idea of another group traveling through time - maybe trying to counter the changes that the PCs are making?
I've done a lot of villain characters but never really had a whole group that's trying to thwart the NPCs. I think it would be a lot of fun, especially if there was some kind of wrinkle to them - either they're trying to preserve the integrity of the timelines or there is some greater consequence to the player character's meddling that isn't immediately obvious. That's kind of a Dr. Who type idea.
But I'm not going to lie, I just want to have a final confrontation between the two groups as different timelines phase in and out of existence around them and time itself goes haywire.
Of course, this whole idea may be becoming impossibly complex. If the whole world it takes place is a fantasy one, it has to be at least roughly sketched out. There should be at least three accessible time periods to make it feel worthwhile (past, present, future) with the possibility of more. And if players are allowed to come from different time periods, that adds another level of complexity.
Some of this I think I could share with the players though - for instance, making their home base or city as a group, with them adding in NPCs and places that they're interested in.
Still, these are ideas that I'm going to put on the backburner and let simmer for a while.
Yesterday Jill and I noticed a weird face in one of the trees by our house. It only looks like a face when the light catches the bark and part of a hollow in the tree a certain way, and only when viewed from the one window of our house. If you walk up to the tree and look in the hollow, it doesn't look like anything. I should take a picture of it - it's not a happy face, it's a miserable, trapped looking face.
Goblin has returned to jumping on doorframes and scratching doors when he's hungry in the morning. He is getting some BRIGHT PINK claw covers as soon as they arrive from Amazon. I'm not sure how well the Composure cat treats work on the other cats. On Goblin they seem to do nothing (no surprise). Eve doesn't seem too affected either, but she's normally a pretty chill cat. But when Bruce has them before bed, he doesn't seem to get neurotic and wake us up at 3 AM - which is awesome.
Today Pat's coming into town, then Saturday is suit fittings and Sunday is hopefully a beer-making day. Busy weekend.
