I get shithouse phone reception in my bedroom and barely better anywhere else within the house... which means, if a phone call is long enough to justify it, i'll run outside n sit on the front garden wall.
I was sitting there this evening, at around midnight, talking to my sister Jessie, a snow-white cat sitting near me, preening itself.
Then suddenly... a Weasel... or maybe an... obese Ferret, comes strolling along the pavement... Ive still not ascertained its exact species, as it was too big for a ferret and didnt have that rolling gate that ferrets have, but it didnt look mean enough to be a Weasel...
Either way, both me, n Mr Snowy the cat sat in perplexed bemusement as this small beast, of the Mustelidae genus, strolled on through a densely residential London street... before both of us recovered and gave chase... well not chase as such, Mr Mustelidae didnt seem in a hurry and was almost oblivious to the confused and uncertain looking feline that was on its heels or the even more surprised looking human padding along in stocking soles two metres behind.
My sister could probably relate to me suddenly stopping mid phone sentence and then saying 'What the fuck is that? Its... its like, a Ferr.. no, its like a... Weasel... like, its wandering down my street!'
Mr Mustelidae pulled into a garden about half a block down and i stood and watched from the street as Mustela and Feline trundled around the yard in no ordered fashion... Mr Mustelidae seemed lost, but was utterly fearless of the cat, indeed just barging past the, by now heckling and hissing feline, who itself didnt seem to know what to do...
I stood back, as Mr Mustelidae emerged from the garden and continued along the pavement, ducking n dodging in and out of other gardens. At one point i actually stepped in and grabbed the cat (who went nuts and started hissing and scratching at me lol) thinking it might get bad, but the complete disregard coming from Mr Mustelidae and getting nailed by cat claws made me think better of it. They continued down the street to the end of the block, whereby Mr Mustelidae went under a car... and i went back home (my phone battery having died during the 'chase') and spent an hour trying to figure out what animal it actually had been...
Im still not sure. It was so carefree and non-threatened by both myself and the cat that im tempted to say it was a very much overfed Ferret, which means its a lost pet... But then it was only marginally smaller than the cat and that's about Weasel size and it walked in a steady back-and-forth manner, not the rolling, springy way ive seen Ferrets move...
Stoat? Polecat? Lol, Otter? Ferret? Weasel?
I dunno.
This is a Rabbit tho.
