Berlin... with Julia, Clive and Jory. Julia and Clive, i lived with in 153 Hamilton Rd, while in Manchester, that squanderous squat of chain smoking turntablists and mushroom chomping ravers. Jory popped out a year ago, and ive found him to be quite a little charmer having won his trust by way of repeatedly covering my face with my hands then upon uncovering my face, yelling 'PEEEKABOOO!'.
They now live here and are very kindly letting me stay with them in Shoneberg, to the south of central Berlin.
Ive found Berlin very interesting, mostly i admit because of its central role in WW2 and the history of the Wall. Theres not much to explore here by way of underground as all the gazillions of bunkers are protected as heritage items, but ive found wandering amoungst the hodgepodge multi era areas of the city fascinating.
I went and did a US Radar Base situated in West Berlin, which had been used as a spy recon centre for the yanks to keep tabs on the East Germans before 1989. It looked like this when it was first abandoned and looks the same now really, except for a load of graffiti and some vandalism:
You can imagine now, why its called 'The Berlin Erection'.
Ive encountered other random people at most of the abandoned sites ive looked at here, which has been disconcerting (are they seccers, friendlies or crackheads?), but they have always bee friendly. Clive and i went to 'Spreeland', an abandoned amusement park by the river, where we encountered people walking their dogs by the Rollercoaster and a posse of film students by the Ferris Wheel.
Likewise, i was at an old brewery, looking for a way in. Once i'd found what seemed to be a way in, i was climbing up when a young woman appeared. She had fire-engine red hair, purple Gosford boots and with a thick Deutsch accent asked:
'What are you doing?'
'Umm, trying to get into this building...'
'Are you successful?'
'Ummm... i think i might be...'
'Ok. Lets go!'
So up we went... n sat on the roof for 4 hours nattering about life. Which was nice.
