Goin' Geyser

Here in Sydney, when it rains, the drains do fill up, but never that badly. But Sydney weather tends to be fast and furious. It'll dump down like you wouldnt believe, but only for a short while. Ive only ever seen a few drains entirely overflow. One was Blackwattle Bay, and i was driving around Wentworth Park when it happened.

It was impressive, water was skooshing out thru cracks in manhole covers and by the time i got to Pyrmont Bridge Road water was lapping over the bonnet/hood of the Torana. In fact i only just made it to dry land before water got to the leads n the old bastard stalled.

But with Sydneys heavy, heavy lids, there wasnt sufficient water pressure coming out of a smallish system like BWB as to dislodge the lids.

Other than that, ive seen Whites Creek Drain filled to the ceiling. Not really impressive given its only a 7ft high covered canal.

THIS THO, IS IMPRESSIVE.

Its footage of a freeway in Minneapolis, beneath which runs the Frozen/Geyser Drain. Ive seen ths drains outfall, its a 14ft high archway that becomes a large RCP further in. It collects freeway runoff from some 20/30 blocks so it gets a decent amount of flow.

This footage is of the drain 'Going Geyser', a phenomenon caused by back pressure from the tunnels flow hitting the Mississipi. Like, a SHITLOAD of backpressure! See the way the car gets crushed by the manhole lid!
