exploding internal organs

cut & gutted

On Thursday, May 25th I was going to sleep in. (it was my day off) I woke up at 5 am and began puking and shitting out everything that I had in my body. Around 8:30 am, I decided I better go in to walk-in before Matt went to work. They put my into a room, and at approx. 10 am I began to experience the worst pain I have ever felt in my life. The nurse came in, started an IV, and gave me a shot. It didn't help, and the nurse yelled at me for moaning in pain, and basically said I was a baby who was over-reacting, and I was "making it worse than it really was." (direct quote) The doctor came in, pushed on my stomach, and declared I had a bowel infection. I asked for a note for work the next day, and the nurse rolled her eyes and said "you will be fine by tomorrow. It isn't that bad." I finally got a note after promising I wouldn't use it unless I really needed it. I filled my prescriptions, and went home.

The pills the doctor gave me dulled the pain for about 2 hours. The only problem was I could only take them every 6 hours. I suffered through all of Thursday and most of Friday. On Friday afternoon, Matt tried to convince me to go back to the ER. I didn't want to get yelled at again, so I decided to call ask-a-nurse. The ask-a-nurse asked me a few questions, then told me I probably had appendicitis, and I needed to go to the ER immediately.

Once I was back at the ER, I saw the same doctor as the previous morning. This time, he decided to actually do tests, and after a pee test, blood work, pap & pelvic, and CT scan, they found out my appendix had exploded. I needed to go into surgery NOW.

As they wheeled me into the operating room, I asked the anesthesiologist how long the surgery would take. She told me a normal appendectomy takes about an hour. They injected medicine into my IV, and the ceiling looked really cool, and I passed out.

FOUR HOURS LATER, I woke up in the recovery room. My appendix had ruptured so bad that pus was everywhere inside my abdomen. I also had an abscess caused by the infection that they had to remove. I had an 8 inch long incision down my belly, and a drain coming out of my side. I also no longer had a belly button. All my intestines were inflamed because they had to move them to clean out all the pus. It REALLY hurt.

Of course, I couldn't eat or drink. I am fat. I like to eat. There are LOTS of food commercials on TV. After 2 days, I got to start a liquid diet. They decided on Tuesday to send me home. Unfortunately, Tuesday evening I came down with an infection, so 9 hours after I got home I was back in the ER with a temperature of 102.2 and I was throwing up. It does not feel good to throw up when your stomach is held together by 16 staples. It is quite painful.

I got readmitted to the hospital, and stayed there until Friday. I am currently staying with my Mom and Dad, but I'm pretty sure they are going to drive me nuts before too much longer. The doctor estimates my recovery time as 1-5 months, so I may be a little stir crazy soon. I actually miss work already!!

In other news, Matt and I bought the house on the 31st. So technically, I am staying at the house we own but my parents live in. They bought their house on the 14th, but are not moving out right away.

Another update, I ripped all but 4 of my staples out because I moved around too much and I also ripped half of my stomach flesh off with the bandage. I am soooooo lucky.
