this is an account of my sorry attempt to get Meru an updated physical (along with the necessary vaccines) the weekend after J come up here. posted mostly for
cruisedirector's benefit...but unfortunately without pictures. next time i should ask Dawn if i can videotape it. :snort:
it went like this:
-- tech #1 came in to do info, left.
-- tech #2 came in to take temp and prelims. i poured Meru out of her carrier and she hissed/spit/snarled at tech #2. the temp taking was not successful. i politely suggested they bring in an extra set of hands because, yes, she IS this much of a pill. tech #2 left.
-- vet came in, tried to do touchy/feely. Meru tried to remove her hands. i offered to pay for sedation. vet said not necessary unless i had noticed any serious problems and resorted to asking me important questions (appetite, litter box habits, etc), did a visual exam. vet left.
-- tech #1 came in again (by herself :eyeroll:) with vaccines. attempted to shoot Meru in the butt, recoiled at Meru's first strike. i reminded her abt the necessity of an extra set of hands. she left.
-- door opens again and the first words i hear out of Dawn's mouth are "oh, it's you again." (this was directed at Meru.) Dawn is accompanied by scaredy tech #1. Meru's hiss/spit/snarl went up three notches. Dawn stood there with arms crossed going "i've had better than you, honey. you don't scare me." i pointed out to Meru that Miss Dawn wasn't going to bow to her BS.
-- Meru tried to back away from Dawn and backed her way off the table, retreating to snarl at Dawn from underneath the table. Dawn boxed her in with her crate on one side, a trashcan on the other and told scaredy-tech #1 to go get the girl who was fastest with the needle, and then told me to go make my boarding appt. when i left, Dawn was offering Meru a roll of paper towels to shred.
-- left, made boarding appt, chatted a bit with girl i made appt with (went to school with her). about five mins had passed, and i went back to knock on the door. "not yet!" Dawn called out.
-- oy vey, Meru. sat down, twiddled my thumbs. regular customer at my store came in with her dog and cat so i decided to visit with her and her pets. waited about another ten mins. tapped on the door again, was granted entrance by Dawn, who was casually dabbing alcohol on six or seven scratches on her hands. Meru was locked in her crate, huffing and puffing.
do you want me to get you band-aids?
"don't worry about me. part of the job."
so what did it take?
"oh we let her run around for a few minutes, then we tried to get her into her carrier. but finally i had to stand in front of her with the paper towels and let her tear at them while Jacki came in and gave her the shots and [tech #1, whose name i didn't catch] was waiting to hold her down if needed."
oy, i'm sorry, Dawn. she is such a pill sometimes.
"don't worry about it." we sat and chatted in front of the carrier for a few mins. i was concerned that Meru lay there, unmoving except to breathe and silent. Dawn assured me she'd worn herself out and it wasn't til she opened the crate door and reached to stroke her ears that Meru lashed out again with a growl.
Dawn rolled her eyes and closed the crate. "yea, she's fine. take her home."
Meru proceeded to bitch all the way home and then sulked and glared for an hour while i settled in to watch some DS9, then she came looking for pity and a piece of the couch blankets.
cats!
LOL.
