Trials of Christmas lists

Dec 13, 2008 18:45

I'm... really starting to dislike Christmas. Well, the fact that it's my family at any rate. I will not go into a long rant about that, I'll save that for a day when I'm seriously pissed.

So, I'm actually being hounded by my mom to compile a Christmas list, yep, hounded. It's not that there's nothing I want... just that it would all have to be imported from Japan and Korea. Something which my parents decidedly don't do. (Am I rejecting my North American culture? Just a bit...)

My lists are usually books and cds -I'm not much of a movie person. The problems with books is that I have a TRAM pass; if there's anything I want, I can just hop on public transit and buy it. Which I do. Secondly, there's sometimes specific editions of books that I want and my parents have yet to understand that the law of substitution is not something I appreciate. If you can't find it, don't get it. I will not feel insulted if you give me money, and you will feel a whole lot better if you don't get me something I don't want.

Suffice to say, I'm just throwing on a bunch of classic lit. Can't go too wrong with that, I hope.

Next, music. The problem with that is... well, gee, I don't listen to much English music anymore. And the francophone section for some reason seems to intimidate my family. We live in Quebec for cryin' out loud.

So in a fit of desperation, I'll ask simply for a DS and several games. Can't go wrong with those. But I suspect I'll have to be with my mom when she buys the actual DS. I don't want the law of substitution to land me with a metallic rose, no thank you. I'd rather borrow my friends.
