[ Cain had left the apartment as soon as he had realized the entry had been made public. The last thing he wanted to see right now was Riff after the things he'd said. He didn't even pay attention to the direction he was walking, just intent on getting away from the apartment. This was completely unacceptable.
By the time he'd realized it, he'd left the city behind and found himself surrounded by trees. He stopped and looked around warily before he drew his gun out, trying to figure out the way out of the woods. ]
[Riff pulled his coat closer around himself to ward off the chill, his features laced with quiet worry. Cain's words had hurt him, true, but he knew very well that his lord was more than justified. He could hardly hold it against him after-- But that wasn't him, that man was gone, and Riff wanted to prove it, wanted to ward away the fear and distrust and just hold Cain close again without the stiffness between them as of late.
He sighed, breath fogging in the air, and paused in his steps to look around for a moment. Closing his eyes, he let his mind drift, trying to figure out which way Cain had gone. Even in a place like this, Riff could feel that bittersweet tinge in the air, Cain's pain as he'd left. He quickened his steps, turning toward the forest, and worry creased his brow. Who knew what sorts of things lived in there, given what came through the city?

[] Cain was a crack shot at least and took out as many of the wolves that surrounded him as he could before backing away when his gun was empty. He'd been so upset he'd forgotten spare bullets and his other weapon []
[Riff heard them before he could see them through the trees, fierce growling and barking, wolves from the sound of it. Something very akin to terror gripped his chest as he sprinted toward the sounds, instinct telling him that was where he needed to be.
He caught sign of Cain within moments, his back pressed against a tree, and by the way he was holding his gun off to the side and staring at the animals, it was clear he was out of bullets. A few lay dead at least, but it seemed as if Riff was just in time. He drew his own weapon immediately, shooting down the wolf nearest to Cain with a bullet between the eyes and trying to get to the earl. Another wolf leaped at Riff, and he shot it down as well, hitting it squarely in the chest as it jumped, and dashing toward his cornered master.]
Lord Cain!
[His shout was all but lost in the fierce, guttural growling as two of the large canines rushed toward the earl this time. Eyes widening, Riff threw himself forward, firing at one of the creatures while he blocked the other with his body.

...Why did you come after me?
[Cain's voice was harsh in the now somewhat quiet area as he disregarded the bodies of the wolves around them, his full attention on Riff. He lifted his head slowly, eyes locking on the man's shoulder before he shook his head. ]
You shouldn't have come after me, Riff. Not after...
[It seemed the few remaining canines had fled, but Riff remained in front of his master vigilantly for another minute, looking around warily and keeping his gun cocked. He didn't look at Cain, but his words were gentle despite the harsh tone he was greeted with.]

Riff will just be grabbing his coat and gun and coming after you now. And way to break his heart, :( ]

You had no right injuring your arm like that..

Forgive me, my lord. I should have been more careful.

My apologies, but I could not let my lord come to harm. Now please, we cannot remain here. This place is teeming with strange and dangerous wildlife.
[He pushed Cain's hand away gently, nodding toward the direction of the city and keeping his gun at the ready as he waited for Cain to start walking.]
