(For the few of you who may not know, Minari is a long-standing Star Wars character of mine. This is a little RP inspired by the weekend.)
The cat shattered the silence as it shot from the huge bushes with unbelievable speed. It was fast even to a Force-user. The sleek feline blazed across the wide expanse, massive paws barely making a noise as it crushed grass in relentless pursuit.
Despite her speed, she could not catch the graceful prey animal. She was chasing a beast with a golden coat of fur spread over a thick body that perched on top spindly legs; a zagelle. Panicked eyes of the female target navigated through the grassland without fault, never missing a step and never hesitating. So sure was the animal's footing and speed that she soon out-stripped the deadly predator.
The lady cat stopped her chase, but there was no stopping the frightened zagelle. She charged ahead, sure of only one thing: escape.
Yet, in one step, it was too late. The king feline burst from behind a rock outcropping. With jaws open and paws extended, the huge cat crushed the zagelle with his massive weight. Body and blood came down to the earth, just a whimper escaped the doomed creature before the teeth of the cat sunk into the speeding pulse in her neck.
The young Minari M'Loy hid her face on her father's sleeve, just 6 standard years old, she didn't like the sight of violence. The sounds of feeding below were faint but Minari's own heavy breathing lured her father's hand to the young girl's face. There were no tears trailing down her cheeks when she raised her head, but her brilliant purple eyes were brimming. The huge hand of the older M'Loy circled a piece of dark hair around her ear.
"What is it you are afraid of, Mini? This is nature." His rumbling voice was even yet gentle. "Do you know what the name of that cat is?"
The horror in the small girl's eyes vanished, chased out by pride. Any opportunity she could impress her father was seized. "It's a coylox, dad."
"That's right. In Chandra-Fan, it means 'life from death'. Simply put, it's the bringer of death so that life may go on." He witnessed realization dawn on the little girl's face.
"You mean without them, life here wouldn't work?" Her voice was unmistakably feminine and childlike, but deeper than most young girls. Her realization made her look at the feast down below.
"Exactly, Mini." He pointed to the female cat trotting toward the food. "And without that lady coylox, the male could never have ambushed the zagelle."
"It was a trap." The small voice whispered.
"There is no life without death. There is no death without life. Just as there is no male without female, no female without male. Everything has a co-conspirator." The elder M'Loy pulled himself up, peering down at his daughter.
Those wide eyes swung up, her nose wrinkled at her father. "It's still gross."
Deep laughter followed them away from the valley.
