Thanks! Haha we never get this much back usually, it's because we had Emily. :)

Nope, you are DEFINITELY not! Pilates was actually created by Joseph Pilates to help rehabilitate bed-ridden WWI vets. My instructor that I had in Indiana began doing Pilates after a really severe back injury. She had to use a walker to hobble around, but LITERALLY 4 sessions in she began to be able to walk properly, without the walker. I am definitely not in great shape! :P What I personally like best about it is that it's VERY effective, and isn't monumentally hard or boring like I find a lot of exercise programs to be.
However, the catch with it is that it's EXPENSIVE. :( I know there are a lot of tapes and stuff, but... I personally REALLY don't recommend that route. First and foremost, I don't recommend it if you do the movements wrong, you CAN hurt yourself. Second, because to properly do the movements, it feels like the most wrong thing in the world. If it feels like you are doing it "right," you're not. So, either you're not getting the proper effect, or you're going to hurt yourself.

The BEST way to do it is to do 4-5 private training sessions with a well-trained, properly certified instructor on the machines {especially if you are really out of shape}. This lets you get a feel for the movements and how to do them with a proper instructor, and then you could switch to group reformer or mat classes, which are cheaper. It'll seem ZOMG prohibitively expensive. However... well, i.e., I hate working out. I hate it. I think it's boring, stupid, and I can never ever motivate myself to continue. My mom talked me into trying Pilates because my pain has just gotten SO bad, it's like I'm basically a cripple. I can't carry anything heavy, I can't walk any significant distance, I can't DO anything physical. It's sad. I'm like the youngest 80 year old lady in the world.
After two sessions of Pilates, my back pain went away. After six sessions in six weeks, I went down a belt notch. I felt better than I had in months. Of course, now that I've been without, my pain is back, BUTTT. it's temporary. :P
So yeah, I know money is SUPER tight for you guys, buttt it's something to think about. Plus, if you guys are still thinking about TTC, what's nice about Pilates is it's very easy to help prep your body for that. :)
