"So this is the deal, Charles, you shoot me, I shoot the bullet and suspend it in mid air with electricity via my awesome fabutastic powers."
"This is a terrible idea."
"Dude?!" said Claudia loudly, making a face. "Don't mock my plan! This is going to work, I've done it before."
"Then why don't you do something challenging? Put the gun down and then I'll shoot you."
"You want me to put down my tesla? You want me to put down the only large source of electricity that I have and let you shoot me? Are you on crack?"
"Claudia-" Charles, barely suppressing an exasperated roll of his eyes, lowered the arm he was pointing the gun at her with and looked up at the sky momentarily to try and form his next words carefully. "Everything is charged with some form electricity. You know that, you've explained it to me, how sometimes you can focus your powers and move someone to your will. That's what I'm asking you to do now....just without the tesla."
Claudia shut her mouth, replaced her grandfather's invention into it's custom holster and folded her arms across her chest. "You're serious." He held out the gun for her to take, which she did, and replaced it in the holster on her hip next to the tesla and refolded her arms. "I've done that like...twice-"
"But you've done it," pushed Charles. "You just need to focus on how to do it again."
"How?"
"What was going through your mind when you forced Havoc's powers into the wall?"
Claudia shrugged. "How big a douche bag he was-"
Charles shook his head, cutting her off. "I'm serious, Claudia. That thought and feeling is the key."
Claudia sucked in a breath, feeling her heart start to pound. "I can't remember."
"I could remember for you," said Charles softly, taking a step back and bringing his hand to his temple. "Do you mind?"
Claudia snorted. "Augh....You're gonna read my mind? Seriously?" Before she was even finished speaking, Claudia felt a push against her conscious, hear a crackling inside her ears like static just before she felt and heard and saw herself at ten years old, staring up at her brother Joshua. Charles exhaled, leaving her mind. Claudia stared at him, feeling so, so happy and terribly empty all at once. Charles looked up at her finally after taking a moment to compose himself.
"Your brother? Before he....?"
"Disappeared inside a wormhole he accidentally created with his magic powers?"
"I'm sorry."
"Thank you," muttered Claudia, swallowing. "I never thought I'd be able to remember him again without feeling helpless. Thank you."
Charles smiled at her, reaching out to touch her cheek gently. "Then, with that in mind, shall we give this a whirl?"
