Chapter 22

Despite their torrid argument, Jack was rewarded with a good night’s rest. Encouraged by high spirits, he’d eaten a whole bowl of thick soup Elizabeth had wordlessly handed him before dozing off into an exhausted sleep. He must have slept well into the morning, for when he woke, all was silent, save for the birds who warbled in their full ( Read more... )

Oh, how beautiful this chapter was.

I felt as if I truely was in the mind of Jack Sparrow from his sufferings to his newfound elation. I loved it when he thought of past loves like Charlotte; which caught me by surprise as I don't think I've ever encountered a fanfic where there was a truely believeable past love for Jack (not some Mary Sue) and such an interesting end.

The letters were wonderful.

His heart leapt with glee when he discovered that it was covered in writing - the same uneven, cramped handwriting that had told him that somewhere someone had actually missed him.

That sentence left me choked up with tears for some reason as it's very true how Jack has been a sort of loner all of his life and to have someone miss him - and not just anyone which would contribute to his happiness further - is just so beautiful.

That little smidgen of longing that Elizabeth reveals means so much, I find as I continue to read and hope for more of her heart to be unlocked (if there is any more left to reveal)

Anyway, I've babble enough. Again, I apologize for the picture delay but no word of a lie, I'm waiting on the scanner to be returned. I also have a picture from piratemistress's Pearls that I wish to share so hopefully it'll be fixed in a jiffy!

Oh, thanks so much!

I realize this chapter is somewhat longish and not particularly exciting, but there were several points that needed to be established before we could continue with the plot.

Charlotte is not really important to the story, but to Jack's development as a whole. There will be revealed more on their relationship later on, since it says a lot about Jack's past and his motivations later in life.

Actually, my take on Jack has always been somewhat inspired by an essay in the German newspaper "Die Zeit", in which a journalist claimed that he's actually a tragic character. If you think about, it's true. He doesn't trust in anyone, and he's used to finding his way alone. There may be people like Gibbs or also Will and Elizabeth who cross his path from time to time, but in the end, he always has to leave them behind and proceed on his own. Jack is, of course, an optimist and a clown, but I think there is enough in canon to suggest that there's more to him than just that.

I can promise you that there is a lot more to reveal as the story continues :)

I am already looking forward to your artwork; I LOVE Pearls (it's one of my favourite fanfics around at the moment), so I can't wait to see that one as well!

Thanks again, it's always a pleasure talking to you!
