I'm absolutely wrecked. Sorry guys, I won't be able to make a Fifth Act update today, I had a look to see how much work the chapter still needed earlier and I found two enormous inconsistencies and about a million typos, which has made me paranoid and I'm really not in the mental condition to pick over it with the necessary fine-tooth comb. But in consolation, here's a rather hastily thrown-together con report from Supanova! :D
I only got to go on the Saturday, as there were familial obligations on Sunday I could not gracefully wriggle out of after my blissfully family-free Easter. :( I pretty much cleaned up all the merch I was interested in on Saturday anyway - brought home a nice haul of old and relatively cheap Geneon-released soundtracks from Transreality. *__* And Supanova doesn't have heaps of things to do anyway, so one day is enough unless you're cosplaying, or spending most of your day standing in line to see a guest. In fact, the more I think about it, the more I realise the primary activity at Supanova is standing in line.
Anyhow, pictures! Cosplay! That was the entire reason I went! My cosplay photo-fu has become weak, so I didn't get as many photos as normal. And a lot of them came out too blurry to really post, but here's a selection. Cosplay attendance was down a little on last year - I think a portion of the anime audience has been driven off, a lot more of the cosplays were TV show and comic book related. Or maybe they were slain by the heat. But one fandom that turned up in unusually high numbers was Sailor Moon, of all things. I saw at least three different Princess Serenities!
Plus Sailor Saturn! She made the boots herself! :O Her glaive was also incredibly awesome, made of wood and surprisingly sturdy!
alsfkjaslkjf Incredible Ciel Phantomhive! There was a rather spiffy Sebastian running around I kept missing, hopefully they met up!
Lucky Star crew.
Suzaku from Code Geass!
And not far away, his nemesis! FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT.
Quick stealth photo of Madam Red! I didn't manage to track her down to get a proper one. :( But I like this photo, because the almost-Sasuke kid in the foreground cracks me up.
Speaking of Sasuke, I posted this one entirely for you,
ka0richan, for the great purple rope. The lighting was really weird inside, ruined a bunch of photos! :(
Why so cold and unfeeling, Sephiroth? XD
I'm impressed this lasted the day! I guess the Sith cosplayers stayed home this year.
To give you an idea of the crowds, this was where people went outside to catch a breather. Apparently Brisbane's Supanova is now the largest in the country? :O WHEN AND HOW DID THAT HAPPEN? Perhaps it's the lack of competitive events.
Karl Urban was there! I only got to glimpse him from a distance, for you see, this Rubik's cube girl was part of the line to go see him. You see in the background behind her? That is also the line. And that's outside the building. I had to choose between waiting in line and going to see the cosplay national championship entrants. I decided I love cosplay more than Karl Urban.
Not sure where these two are from, but kind of amazing!
I did say there were a lot of Sailor Moon cosplayers! Eternal editions!
C.C. from Code Geass! Complete with creepy coloured contacts. *__*
dlsakjfaslkfjsklafj SNOW VILLIERS FROM FFXIII!!! \o/ This guy was one of the entrants in the national cosplay championship. But the most amazing part - HE MADE THE SHIVACYCLE! THE SHIVACYCLE! (Plus a Serah doll XD)
Apparently it took him 13 days. XD I'm not entirely certain if that was true or a clever reference. Unbelievably, this only netted him 2nd place. But he was hilarious. There was a Stig in the audience, and John (MC) pulled him up for a test drive. XD
More of the amazing Sailor Moon group! This has to be the first time I've seen the entire group. *___* As John pointed out, it was like collecting the figures, then realising you had the full set.
Blurry Genesis photo! Wasn't that great, honestly, maybe better that's blurry. I fangirled all the same. There was a rather short Zack running around too! Kept missing him for photos.
Subaru from .hack//SIGN! Best one I've ever seen!
Epic Gurren Lagaan group!
Black Cat crew!
This is the full group of national championship entrants. Snow, stop flirting with Sakura! What will crystal Serah think?! :O The winner was Fai D. Flowright in the center. She actually had a costume change mid-skit!
Pokemon! It's more than just brave to wear a suit like this at this con. It was really very hot and humid, made only worse with the huge crowds inside. People fainted, so there were some rather frequent reminders during the comp and over the PA speakers for people to remember to stay hydrated. Brisbane conventions are dangerous. XD
Alien and Noot! They had an absolutely brilliant suspense skit, which they then stuffed up at the last second, but that somehow made it even better. XD
Some of the best cosplays were outside the comp, though! Beauty and the Beast! I couldn't get over that dress!
Awesome Grell! I probably should have grouped the Kuroshitsuji cosplays together. They were all rather impressive!
One last one! Misato Katsuragi playing Guitar Hero ftw!
Then I spent a good 45 minutes wandering the convention floor looking for my wayward friends who I'd lost early in the day, only to discover they had ditched me and gone home without even telling me. Not so much as an SMS! Thanks guys! I desperately need to find new con-going friends for Brisbane events.
