Happy Fourth of July, everyone. This is Liz, reporting from South Florida, where it's pouring rain outside. And it's thundering. And there's lightning. I had plans to go to a parade this morning, but after a ridiculously fun night with Eleanor, I overslept completely. I didn't even hear the THREE alarms I set. We went to this dive bar right across the street from my house aptly named BAR. We mingled with the regulars. I lost some game of pool to a woman named April. We sang Bohemian Rhapsody with some guy named Vinny. It was fabulous. Bar is one of those places that I wish I had found sooner. The people there were so great and fun.
I had some plan options for tonight, but I think I'm going to stay in and relax. It's the holiday. I know it sounds excessively boring, but I might spend the night in. Maybe hanging out with Eleanor later, but that's iffy. Currently I'm packing and enjoying a lovely little Monk marathon on the USA Network. (It's the USA Network. That's patriotic, right?) Considering I have so little stuff, this has become a tedious process. I'm trying to get rid of a lot of stuff. Once again my plans of cleaning out my car have been foiled thanks to the downpours we've been having recently. I don't have any furniture, but I have certainly accumulated a lot of junk.
This is such a weird holiday. Plus really nothing compares with Boston 4th of Julys. Spending all day at the Charles River with picnics and beer. Meeting fun people. Hanging out. Relaxing. Fireworks at night. I always managed to have an awesome spot right on the riverbank. One of the coolest displays was from 2004. At the very end, Ari and I were just standing there, along with everyone else, while this amazing display went off above us, and it looked like you could reach out and touch them, they seemed so close. July 4th is a holiday I'd like to rediscover, but not this year. This year I want to relax, with friends or on my own. Tomorrow night is party night, anyway.
I bought a picture frame yesterday at Target. It's really neat. It has a very vintage look to it, with washed out vintage ads on it. I don't really have any pictures to put in there, but I felt like I had a draw to purchase it. By the time I get to my new digs, I have to find a picture to put in there. That's one thing I want to change. I never really ever had pictures up around me. At all. It sort of played into the whole nomadic existence thing, that sounds so romantic, in theory. I think for the first time I want a history and some roots. It's a nice feeling.
It's pouring again. I'll end with something funny from my future husband...

I'm excited. This commercial reminds me that, oh my gosh, football pre-season starts next month. Which means it's almost September. Which means it's almost time for us to kick butt this season!
