I have a lot I need to get done at work today, but this weekend was pretty stellar, so I feel the need to provide a little documentation of the festitivities.
FRIDAY:
Got off work early, and made my way (in the rain and traffic) towards Durham. It was James' birthday, so we went out to a pro-hockey game. It was the Carolina Hurricanes vs. the Penguins. Now I have an entirely new sport to learn, as it was just incredible. I didn't realize how great hockey was until I saw it in person. It is definitely a sport that needs to be seen in person in order to be truly appreciated. Prior to the game, we had a huge tail-gating party, with some of the best food ever, beer, and honestly, we even broke out a beer pong table. After the game, we made our way back to James' house for cake and more fun... although it took us some extra time as Adam remembered the parking lot number wrong, so we were wandering around with him hitting the panic button for awhile. (As a note, James runs Bub O'Malley's.)
SATURDAY:
Saturday was pretty awesome, as well. Around 2 pm, the Bub O'Malley's softball team party was held, and it was a fabulous time. There were only about 10 of us, as some were lucky enough to score tickets for the Talledega NASCAR race for this past weekend. There was so much food and drinking and seriously good fun. I even fished for the first time! I didn't catch anything, but hey, maybe next time? We sat around, danced around, played around, whatever'd around until the wee hours of the morning, until one by one we started dropping like flies on various couches and spare beds throughout Natalie and Dan's house. (They were our gracious hosts.) I know that summary doesn't seem like anything special, but it really was a great time.
SUNDAY:
Sunday morning, everyone woke up still at Natalie and Dan's. I dragged my poor sorry booty to the nearest Arby's. Although it was one of the most beautiful drives I have ever been on. They only live about 20 minutes from me, in Hillsborough, NC. It was a picture perfect day, with rolling fields and trees and sunshine... not another car on the road. I felt very lucky, for some reason. Anyway, Sunday. Sunday was a day of rest and a day of sports, at Phil's, with the usual group of people. Given my good fortune of NEVER SEEING ANY SKINS GAMES LIVING HERE (grr), I was relegated to seeing us beat the Detriot Lions 34-3, via the sports ticker updates on the bottom of the screen, as well as some highlights shown throughout the day. Then the Red Sox won their series against, moving onto the next round of the playoffs. (YAY!) After that, the Yankees had the unadulterated gall of winning last night, when they should have just lost to the Indians. That comeback pissed me off. Damn you, Johnny Damon.
* * * *
Now it's Monday, and I'm at work. It's almost 11 am, already, which is a bit nerve-wracking. I have a lot to do today. OH! I also forgot to mention that I locked my keys in my car on Saturday, right before the party, and I had to break into my own car using a wire coathanger and tape. I felt like MacGuyver, although he probably would have never locked his keys in the car. Whatever. This upcoming weekend, I'm apparently going to Charlottesville to hang with the Sawyers and go to a UVA football game. Should be very exciting! I love how I live in Chapel Hill, but I have yet to go to a UNC game, and I'll be seeing a UVA game first. Granted, I do love UVA, thanks to my dad. GO WAHOO-WA!
Heroes is on tonight, but thanks to no cable at my house, I have to wait until my lunch break TOMORROW to watch it. Sadness.
P.S. After living for a year in South Florida, I'm over hot weather. Bring on the chilly days of fall. Curling up with sweaters, etc.
