The
11th Japanese Film Festival commenced a couple of days ago and I've managed to watch a couple of films over the weekend.
Honey and CloverThis movie is adapted from the manga and anime series (Honey and Clover, aka Hachimitsu to Kuroubaa). Hmm how do I summarise the plot. Well, the movie revolves around 5 students who attend the same art college. The relationships get a bit tricky to explain because there are a lot of one-sided affections...added to friendships and what-not. An interesting one...I quite liked this. Will definitely try to get a hold of the anime when I have some time.
Linda Linda LindaActually I read about this movie quite some time ago and have been trying to get a copy of the DVD (on
YesAsia and even the Chinatown DVD stores). However, I haven't been able to source a version with English subtitles. Actually I lied. The English subtitled version was released in May this year but I never got around to buying it because I was waiting for the price to come down. Anyway, the film revolves around high school friendships, teenage crushes (though it is only briefly touched on and never explored further). Quite mundane really, but I think that's the charm behind the film. And it doesn't hurt to have a catchy soundtrack as well.
Unfortunately these movies are not dirt cheap so I'm only watching 5...
2 down, 3 to go.
The Suicide Song - starring Ryuhei Matsuda! (this guy was also in Blue Spring, Nana, just to name a couple)
A horror flick....almost thought I had to watch it alone but my cousin is coming too! yay :)
Maiko Haaaan!!! - this was the opening film so I thought it should be fairly decent. Don't you just love the title?
Summer Days with Coo - the closing film for the festival. An anime!
Would have loved to watch a few more but so hard to decide! Sigh.
They should come up with an unlimited subscriber film pass...like the Sydney Film Festival.
Anyway. it's late.
