My beloved pupils shall be departing for their homes this approaching Saturday, and I already feel the loss. As it seems the only pupils staying shall be the usual left-behinds, Severus and I have been making tentative plans for a more delightful holiday on the Continent, or perhaps somewhere else. This profession often prevents travelling. I curse the day that my mother ever insinuated that I should teach others a lesson literally rather than metaphorically.

Saturday evening I ventured into Hogsmeade, which was absolutely filled with pupils, who I really enjoy spending my free time as well as work time with. There is no greater joy in life than to spend weekends with the pupils of Hogwarts. I convinced Madam Rosmerta to call it a night and join me at the Hog's Head, which is typically safe of students not wanting to be a) tattooed, b) pierced, c) propositioned, or d) hexed. Unfortunately this does not always keep them out, but the evening was a peaceful one.

Rosmerta and I were in the same form at Hogwarts, so I do occasionally enjoy a drink with her now and again before remembering that there is a reason I only do so occasionally. The woman insists upon wearing dreadful sparkling heels each holiday season. She is, however, an excellent source of gossip. It would appear that Mr Boot and Ms Turpin spent a great deal of time at the Three Broomsticks during the course of their Hogsmeade weekend, which is of no surprise despite the fact that we had always suspected that Mr Boot's affections were closer to the masculine persuasion, as Ms Turpin is quite manly herself.

Rosmerta inquired about Black, because she believes she is original in chasing after the supposed Bad Boys of the world. I discouraged her by informing her that Black is not as wild as one would believe an Azkaban-escapee to be. Curiously, Rosmerta inquired further, and I informed her of Black's tendency to sulk over rejection for days and days. She, on the other hand, has no sense of humour and was quite saddened for the "poor dear." Black, I daresay that when you finish your streak of going after every professor in the castle, you have a charge waiting for you in Hogsmeade.

I have decided against buying gifts this year, for the simple reason that I bought none last year or the year before. It is tradition, and such things cannot be broken. Students shall also receive no ease in their supply of homework, due to the fact that I have not forgotten that no one bothered to make me a Get Well card when I suffered various severe burns as they did for Black and his motorcycle accident.
